Can I Change to a 5-Lug??
Hi Everyone,
I live in Malawi and it is very difficult to get anything in the way of decent Alloys here in a size above 15"... I would like to fit a set of 17" Alloys on my Vitz, but can only source 5-Lug types here in that size... Is there a way to change to 5-lug? Would I maybe have to change my rear drums and front discs to that of maybe the New Corolla (which is a 5-lug) to then make it fit? Sorry if this offends anyone but out here we pretty much have to modify everything and anything because there are no tuning places or accessory stores......

If you guys have the Scion XD it's probably your best source for parts, because a lot of it is the same as the Yaris. I'm not sure how much you'll need to swap though.

Contact TireRack. They'll get the correct 4x100 stuff to you. Shipping charges should be less than converting your car to another spec.

Out in PR a lot of the Yaris vehicles are doing just that and using RAV4 rims looks cool, go for it

they make things to do that, grr I can't remember what it is called. But on some cars swapping to different lug patterns is common, maybe if you search around on the net you'll get lucky and find something.

Yes you can, you would have to source the hubs, rotor, caliper & bracket from a Toyota car that came 5 lug. Hey Big lo, find out for us from someone there in P.R. Iv seen it done, just dont know what car the got the parts from...

The right way to do it would be to change the hubs, but the easy way to do it would be with wheel spacers that are also 4 lug to 5 lug adapters:

CTScott... Thanks for that!
I have been searching online as well, seems like most of these kinds of adapters are like 2 inches thick... surely that will push my wheels out like a tank! LOL will contact Adapterkings and see if i can get something to work... ;)

The thinnest ones I've seen are 1" thick. If you are buying new rims, you can compensate for the thickness in the offset of the rim.

Might I be able to skim a bit off the rim to compensate for the thickness of the adapter...?

As a DIY? Probably not.. If you have any wheel manufacturers around your area you may be able to get them to mess with it. (i.e. we have Diamond Racing Wheels in Wisconsin who will modify wheels.)

I read somewhere that adapters can be found only 8mm thick, would be great if i could find some like that - the other option i am looking at is to change the rear hubs and front rotors to those of the latest corolla as it is now a 5x100pcd........ (?!) Might that be a better option?
