help installing foglight!!

hey people... i need help installing the foglights... got it from peterpoop.. he got it from microimage.... yay free stickers.. lol.. anyways following the pdf file on microimage...im kinda confuse on where the switch wires go to..on the
on the new instructions.. on step 6.. i want to follow "B"... but its sounds like it just tapping the red wire to pin 3 and tapping the green wire to pin 13.. but on the old insturctions... it tells me to take out pin 3 from d4 connector and plug the green wire from the switch from there.. and take the old pin 3 and connect it to the red wire from the switch... but the thing is im having a hard time taking out the pin 3.. can i just cut and splice? or does anyone have an easy route to take it out.. lmk which directions to go with.. thanks

Not sure what kind of wires you got, you may want to post up all of your switches and wires.

I don't have the relay, so my setup is different.

the easiest way and save time is connect the wire to the parking light. when you turn on the parking light, the fog light is on. In the way you dont have to connect a switch or run those wire in and out.

If your harness only has three wires coming out of the switch, then it is yet another variant of the switch. Can you take the cover off the the switch and take a picture of both sides of the circuit board, with the connector plugged in?

Scott, that is the old kit, peterpoop bought that a while ago I think. So at least it's not a "current" variant. Ray might be helpful with this too.

Ahhh - That's a relief. It would still be handy to get a pic of either side of that version and that way I can update that doc for both for the part in regards to not having the light on when the car is off.

Did Poop include the relay? If you just want a straight hookup, maybe I can help you over the weekend. Easier if you post all the wiring and CTScott can solve it for you. He's da man!

OK - So from the pics, you do have the same one as what is documented in my updated PDF.

Pulling the pins from the OEM connector is not necessary. In the original doc is was written that way for those who did not want to cut or splice their factory wires.

For you to do option "B" in the new doc you just tap the outside red wire to pin 3 and the green to 13.

Okay so I am in the same boat/place with the install as chexmix.

1) from the switch there are 4 wires, but the two reds are spliced together under the plastic flex conduit. So there is no outside red wire and at the end of the spliced together red wire, there is a gray plastic cylidrical connector of some sort. Are we suppose to de-splice the two reds and extend them out for the new steps 6 & 7? And when connecting to pin 3 & 13 we cut the current wires and splice into them (solder the wires together) I assume?

2) Also where would you recommend mounting the switch in a '10 4-door HB? I wanted it in front of the e-brake lever where there are 3 empty spots (there is a door lock switch in one of the four) but the switch is too small and sits too deep.

.... or is there a newer switch with the right wirng and size?

Thanks Guys.

1) You do need to separate all four wires in the fog light harness. For the 3 and 3 connections, you don't need to cut the factory wires. You can either use tap splice connectors or you can strip some insulation off and solder the wires.

2) The switch with its sleeve should actually be a little too big for the knockouts in the center console. You have to shave a bit of the hole to make it fit. I believe that even the OEM Toyota switch requires that to be done.

1) Thanks, got that one sorted out now.

2) Nope, it is too small / hole is too big. Doesn't sit up high enough. I'll take a couple of pictures.

You clipped the correct resistor (in your picture above), which like Ray suggested with clipping the LED, eliminates the light that always stays on and separates the lighting from the switching.

Where did you connect the lighting wires to? Did you connect them to the shift illumination circuit per the updated instructions below?
