New TSB - 2006-2015 Yaris Drive Belt Squeal Noise on Cold Start

This new TSB for "Drive Belt Squeal Noise on Cold Start" was recently added for the 2006-2015 Yaris.

The solution is simply a higher belt tension spec:

Original spec:
New Belt: 539-637 Nm
Used Belt: 245-392 Nm

Updated spec:
New Belt: 750-850 Nm
Used Belt: 375-400 Nm

Attached is a copy of the TSB.

Interesting. Does this mean anything for someone who bought a new belt and got it tightened twice to stop the noise from somewhere other than a Toyota dealership? My car is outside the 36k and/or 36 month range so I expect this doesn't really affect me.

So, for us driveway mechanics who measure tension by belt deflection, what do these new specs mean?

Interested tidbit in the TSB, 'Do not loosen Bolt B', the bolt that has caused countless people grief. Countless post in here on the issue of stuck, stripped, or broken bolts stemming from tightening or replacing the belt.

It's a TSB, so your warranty parameters mean nothing. This is just an advisory to mechanics for trouble shooting a customer reported issue.

I can't see the TSB. Is this for both 2 and 3 pulley setups?

Thanks for the info. Just a week ago I fixed my belt noise by increasing the tension on the belt to as hard as I could pry the alternator over. This makes me feel better about doing that. Heh. I have no way of finding out how tight the tnesion is but I figure its not too bad since I have very little strength. lol
