Any reason not to do this...
Lowering the car with TRD shock and springs. This I have already decided thanks to another thread (although I have to be honest, it's going to cost just about the same as buying the megan coilovers. heh)
SSR type C 16 x 7 +42 offset (11lbs apparently) 205/50ZR16 Kumho Ecsta SPT (21lbs apparently) Cheap tires, pricey wheels. Not out of my price range but I'd love to save some money if possible... but that's not really my biggest concern. My concerns are rubbing - I think it should be ok, but I'm not 100% positive. And of course, I want to get a bit extra grip and hopefully drop some weight... So, should I buy this? Any other recommendations? (should I go and weigh one of my stock wheel/tire setups? wonder how much diff there is...) Thanks again guys. |

if you go with the cheaper tires your ride will be a little louder .. better tires are softer .. i choose cheaper tires b/c it was half the price of the expensive ones

Cheaper does not equal louder. Noise almost exclusively comes from tread design. Expense comes from tread design, stickiness, special size, and brand logo...

cheap also last about 1/2 the time so it makes sense ( cents ) so shell out the extra $$ for quality and performance

All your pride and joy and investment rests upon those 4 rubber donuts holding your car to the ground so that you can keep the shiny side up. I wouldn't skimp on tires just to get a set of expensive rims, instead of getting good tires on cheap rims, or average tires on average rims.
The consequences are just not worth it.

I have falken also. I would agree about the inexpensive comment but I find them to be of fine quality for my taste but hey I'm just poor white trash scum.

That's not true. How long a tire lasts is determined by how hard the compound is. A cheap tire made of a hard compound will last much longer than an expensive tire made of soft compound. Price has nothing to do with it.

But seriously, I know those kumho's are cheap, but that's the best reviewed tire I can find in that size... Any other recommendations? How about the rims? I like simple design, I personally like a few more spokes but don't want to put a heavier setup on the car. I really want to keep the car as responsive as I can... I kinda like the look of the konig helium's and konig feathers but I can't find a reliable weight on either of them (all the ad's just say "LIGHTWEIGHT!" which is uhhh, pretty useless to me...) plus seems no one keeps them in stock. I personally wouldn't mind staying with 15" rims, I just can't seem to find much in that size either! Say a 15x7 rim to give you that slightly larger contact patch? But seems tough to find... |
