Here's an update:
total distance driven so far: 7486 miles total amount of fuel bought: 177.14 gallons (18 fill-ups averaging 9.84 gallons) 80% highway AC on half the time doing the economical driving style I think it's not too bad getting 42.25 mpg |

Since you are in the US, you acheived the same as me (see post above)! I also got 42.25 (US) MPG. Since you have a sedan, it is that much MORE impressive!!! Nice work! cheers

Filled up yesterday & got 39mpg (US).
the first 1/2 of the tank was mostly highway... The 2nd 1/2 had alot more city & included moving a ton of stuff for my gf. no A/C, and kept it around 60-65mph on the highway. hope to break the 40mpg next tank. |

Yeah - I'm in a 10% ethanol region and I'm only getting about 30(US) mpg in my automatic tranny liftback. Then again I drive 75-80 mph on the highway if I'm not sitting in traffic.

Fuel economy variation
It may be helpful if people gave details in a standardized manner like below.
fuel economy - 41.5 mpg US transmission - automatic terrain - flat with few small hills avg length of trips - 100 miles highway driving mix - 10% city/90% highway driving style - very conservative top speed - 60-65 mph AC - 0% (windows up) gas - 10% ethanol blend odometer mileage - 8,000 miles tire pressure - 42 psi avg # of passengers - 1 (driver only) cargo/towing - none This would help a lot as people who take short trips that do not allow the engine to warm up may be getting up to 50% less mileage , who are aggressive drivers in an urban environment, or get stuck in major traffic often like in Baltimore/DC or LA should and will get worse fuel economy. |

Here is an interesting article. It's basically all about fuel economy help sell tiny cars. Some nice words about the Yaris.

Very interesting article thanks! GO YARIS!!! Sure the new Aveo may have more features but it still doesn't get the milage in this class, or at least not up to par from what I read even with the new one coming out, then there's the Dawoo...we already know about that.

Just found some gas mileage improvement tips from I Go Cars:
The tips per se are not too different from what I have read from elsewhere. It is the savings achievable listed out in percentage terms which interest me. http://www.i-go-cars.com/autos/category/gas-mileage/ Also, if you click Gas Saving Tips (or click this - http://www.i-go-cars.com/autos/gas-saving-tips/) and go to the bottom of the page opened, you will find that it says warming up after start is not necessary for modern engines. It is novel to me. It may be right but I would personally recommend to make additional reference to individual cars' user manuals .

Yes, yes! Also, the Yaris and the Scion together outsell the Aveo. Actually, the Aveo is not bad, I still think that it is mainly the class leading fuel economy that helps the Yaris. Of course, the Yaris' predicted reliability, its cute look and higher resale value have their parts to play too.

More than anything I think it has to do with the resale, and predicted reliability.. besides all that the Aveo is a much less appealing looking car..

Officially I found I get 31.5 MPG.
That is 95% city driving and a lead footed kid with a short shifter in the driver's seat. All in all, not bad. I'm happy. |

i was out on several long drives this weekend. one was with the bcmr2 club from langley to manning park, about a 400km round trip. i got about 6.5L/100km on the highway, cruising at a high 120-30km/h, and driving the car quite hard at times up the hills (and i still couldnt keep up, hahaha).
next day, i was up to lytton from vancouver, return trip roughly 500km's. not too sure how much gas i used up. but over those 2 days, boy am i glad i drive a fuel efficient car! |

Here's an update on the mileage I got on my last tank: Drove about 70% City & 30% Highway. Got 359.8 Miles, filled up with 10.15 gallons...so that's about 35.45 MPG. This was without driving "grandma" style. I think this next tank I'm taking it easier.

Cool.Nice effort there.
The thing is that after making an effort to drive economically, I usually end up putting the pedal to the metal!!!

HURTING!
I got only 28.89 US miles per gallon on my most recent tank! :S 555 km with a 45.19L fill up (45L bc I was right near empty, so I needed to put $5 in it to get me to Newmarket to visit a friend where gas was priced 7 cents cheaper than here locally) I guess about 300 KM of them were highway kms... on the 400 and 404, but whenever I'm on these roads I usually on average traveling like 140km (sometimes higher at 150km/h and sometimes lower around 120km/h) That must be whats killing my fuel efficiency, the high speeds at which I'm travel is just needlessly burning extra fuel. Im not massively concerned about the low mpg on my yaris, bc if I was driving any other car it would also only be worse than the estimates when traveling at such speed. Though, maybe I will think about traveling a more regular 110km/h next time I'm going to Toronto and back, to try to really improve that fuel efficiency. I had no idea that traveling at such speeds really was killing my mpg so badly. (sad) Jem
