I guess about 300 KM of them were highway kms... on the 400 and 404, but whenever I'm on these roads I usually on average traveling like 140km (sometimes higher at 150km/h and sometimes lower around 120km/h)

That must be whats killing my fuel efficiency, the high speeds at which I'm travel is just needlessly burning extra fuel.

Im not massively concerned about the low mpg on my yaris, bc if I was driving any other car it would also only be worse than the estimates when traveling at such speed.

Though, maybe I will think about traveling a more regular 110km/h next time I'm going to Toronto and back, to try to really improve that fuel efficiency.

I had no idea that traveling at such speeds really was killing my mpg so badly. (sad)

Jem
Yeah, I found it hurt a bit when I go near 160km/h on 404. To balance it out, what I do is the following:

Try accelerate the car under 2500rpm on lights. It's hard, because most car would pass you, but it saves sh!tload of gas.
Only turn on A/C on highway, and turn it off when in traffic. Sure, it's hot as hell sometimes, but it's already september, this should be easier than May or June.

By doing so, I get an extra nearly 50~70 km on a tank.

That is what I have found out with my sisters and my Camry. The worse the traffic the better the gas mileage. Last week was 90% city driving and I achieved 28mpg. This week is highway only at 75+mph. I got 24.7mpg.

Maybe I need to slow down.

driving at 75mph will kill your FE. slow down to 55-60mph & you will see a jump.

i dont think the bad traffic helped. i think it was the excessive highway speeds that hurt.

i keep it at around 60mph on the highway, and im consistantly getting 39-41mpg average. 60% highway. live in the city with lots of street lights. i would like to see if i can get it a little higher.

This is an update using the data of the last two tanks together:

1170.5 km (727.35 miles) traveled with 78.06 litres (20.62 US gallons/17.17 Imperial gallons) of gas. All these mean approximately:

6.67 litres/100 km, or
14.9925 km/litre, or
35.27 mpg (US), or
42.36 mpg (Imp).

The ratio between city and highway driving was about 25/75 and the A/C was on about 65% of the time. The load was two people (including the driver) plus some personal belongings most of the time.

My girlfriend do near 600 KM with 40L of regular unleaded for mixed city/highway with the Echo. 6.7L / 100KM.

It's great... BUT! I do near 600 KM with 44L of regular unleader for mixed city/highway with my Cavalier... but I have near 150 HP of fun under my feet! 7.3L / 100KM.

Difference? 0.6L / 100 KM more... and around 45 HP more!

I got my worst two tanks of fuel this past week with hours of sitting in traffic waiting at us/canada customs every day. Still got 500km to a tank, filled the tank and it cost me $25 US for 8.5 gallons @ $2.93 a gallon Sunoco fuel.
I won't run that crap any more.
I usually get about 600km in the same conditions.
I get better mileage running the fuel from Mobil or Sonic.

New tank, filled up Monday, got 7.29 L/100 km.

Thats an improvement, but still not even the city mileage I was looking for atleast. :(

My car(see right) has been giving me about 14 kilometers per liter i.e.7.14 liters per 100km. That is about 39.5 miles per imperial gallon or 32.9 miles per US gallon. I believe my numbers are about average among fellow Yaris drivers. I look forward to seeing more postings on this subject.

My average (after 5 tanks) is 35.6 MPG (US GAL)

Picked this site up from gassavers.org, it is for bike routes but tells an interesting story if you put your commute in.

Thumbs up My MPG

I have 1246 miles on mine after owning 1 month. Have put a total of 34.71 gals in her so far. This averages out to 35.9 MPG. Wife drives her to work mostly, which is through the country here in Indiana. Have had the AC on most of the time. I bought the vehicle for retirement to save some dollars. If it continues to get this kind of mileage then I'm a happy camper.
