Best tweeter location
So yeah, I just got my 2007 Yaris w/ the TRD suspension. First of all, if anyone is wondering, yes... the TRD suspension offered is worth it. All those people that told me this car was a mousey little joke quickly changed their tune after 5 minutes on some Ohio backroads. Anyway, I've been searching the internet up and down for any type of aftermarket parts for this thing with little to no luck so far. I figure what the hell... if you can't make it faster you might as well make it louder.
I've got an Alpine head unit and I miss the sound quality I used to have in my Eclipse, so I figure it is time for some speakers. I plan on buying components at least for the front, but when I was scoping the interior out for a good place for a tweeter I was kind of dumbfounded. The classic spot for tweeters (at least in my experience) is on the A pillar or somewhere on the dashboard, but that just wouldn't work in this car. Everything is too close to your face. I was advised by a less-than-trustworthy source that the place for the tweeters would be right above the door handles, but I don't see how that makes much sense. I don't know, maybe I am wrong. Has anyone installed components in their Yaris/Vitz yet, and if so where did you put the tweeters and would you do it differently if the world was perfect and you could undo that hole you just cut in your car? And I guess on a side note, who has components all the way around? Where did you mount stuff in the back? I really don't think that would quite be necessary in this car, I have shoes larger than this thing. But hey, if you guys say it makes a big difference than so be it. Oh, and hooray for my first post. |

I installed MB Quart RCE 216's in front and back. I mounted the tweeters right by the small side windows. The rear I just mounted coaxial style.

I was wondering the same thing as I am going to be installing components in the next couple weeks.

Nice, clean install man. It seems like that would sound a lot better than having them in the door panels facing eachother... something just didn't sound right about that. How are those MB Quarts? ;)

thanks, the tweeters sound really good, better placement there than the prius or corolla where they would mount in the stock location in the lower corner of the window.
I like the MB Quarts, well worth the price. I also have the same series components in my other car. As for the sedan, sorry, I haven't seen the interior yet to compare to the liftback. |

I wonder how the staging would be if you placed them on the "armrest/control console on the door facing up and if they are able to be positioned have them angling toward the head? Never heard of someone doing it so I am curious. I will have to take a couple pics today and put them in here.

My liftback doesn't have those mirror covers. Looks like that wouldn't work unless I could order some from the dealership or something.

I used the MB Quart RCE-216's up front in my HB and the RCE-213's in the back. I configured the rear as a coaxial. Here's how the front looks:
Thanks for your advice on the other forum toddhata, they sound really great even with the factory head unit (that's next). |

Looks good! Just wait til you replace the head unit and add an amp, it will sound even better.
