She's applying to med school. I'm in the process of applying to get a second degree, in biology. I'm finding out very quick that a degree in photography is, well... not great to have in the current economic environment.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that employers think that designers are expendable. You can definitely tell when a company has gone the MS Word route over InDesign.

Oh, and turns out this job pays a solid 75% more than I thought it did. I paid all my credit cards off with one paycheck.
G'morn. grats on the surprise funds. How about a round of beers? I'll take a Harpoon Leviathan Series IPA.

I like how all new job offerings for 'Graphic Design' want to pay you $7/hr, but you must be a master Web Designer as well as Graphic Design, and know some financial skills to book-keep, and have good customer service skills for sales. WTF is that.

Yeah, a lot of places are killing off their web design department and doubling up on their designers, it's total .

Congrats on being able to pay off the bills but shouldn't you know exactly what your salary or hourly wage will be before you start work? What if it had turned out that you made 75% less than you thought? You would have already put in those hours.

Anyways, it turned out much better this way. Does the pay vary month to month or do you really make 75% more for the whole year?

I'll let you know in a month. Honestly Long, its a job in my field and I'm still in school, so they could have paid me peanuts and I would have taken it. The experience is vastly more important than the wages for now.

I guess I'm just lucky I still have a job.. but I'm trying to move.

I'm a decent web designer, but I'm definitely a graphic designer. Every job I apply for wants you to be both, a little more extent than I know in web design, and pay you nothing. Blah. Oh well.
