that is awesome.. congrats dude. sux that you have to let off the a bit to win. haha..

I am not familiar with some of the drag lingo, but what did it mean when you said this?

Quote:
12.57 to his 12.33 (ran out chasing). WIN
does that mean he is too fast for the 12.50 class?

I guess the best example .... It is like Pinks All Out (the show). All the cars are capable of running 12.50, so it makes for super close racing. If you run too fast though, you are DQ'd. I decided to sandbag a bit because every once and a while I have a hard time getting in 2nd, so I wanted that cushion. I pedaled it or let off when I was slighty ahead to ensure I wasn't going to run faster than 12.50, hope that makes sense. That mustang that ran a 12.33 was clearly sandbaging, but I crossed the line first anyhow because I treed him... had he crossed 1st, he would have been DQ'd.

thank for explaining it.. I understand the sandbagging part and peddaling it so you dont go TOO fast for your class..

BUT, i still dont quit understand how you beat him in the tree, and you crossed the line before he did. and he still ran faster than you.. My brain is still trying to understand..

quick question may help me, Is "tree" time, how fast your response is when the light turns green to when the car starts to move?

OR, does it just not matter who crosses first, just who gets to point "a" to point "b" faster?

good questions. I've never seen index class racing, so I don't know either.

The "tree" is the light, yes. And the reaction time from the tree is what he is referencing.

It is also called "Handicapped" racing.

You are trying to get to the finish line first without going below your dialed in time, which in this case, was set at 12.5 seconds.

It does not matter who has the faster time - it is who crosses the line first. (Although, of course, the faster the time + the quicker reaction time usually = WIN unless you "break out" / go too fast and beat your dialed in time.)

Went to the drag strip yesterday, made a pass for the fun of it.

This is my stock 2000 Vitz (1300cc 2NZ-FE), recently chucked in a C114 gearbox and the car had a bit of weight reduction.

ok.. I think I sorta kinda get it now.. I'd like to throw in a "what if this happens" question that may help me get to sleep tonight..

If both cars run a 12.45 for example. (highly unlikely i know)
and left car tree time was .555 and right car tree time was .333

right car would win because he would have beaten his tree time.

Another question for BlownXA.. back to the orginal story. Did you win against the foxbody stang because you crossed the line first or because he DQ'ed? I think I may be reading too much into this now..

^ Yep, you got it!

Reaction time + time ran = who gets to the finish line first.

Also, another thought, say you are running 16 seconds and the car you are racing is running 10 seconds - you get to leave 6 seconds earlier at the tree to make it fair. It's all about reaction time and how close to your dial-in you can get.

1st rd. Foxbody mustang, he pulled a .671 light, I pulled a .251....I pedaled before finish line crossing with a 12.57 to his 12.33 (ran out chasing). WIN

He won because the Mustang had a crappy light, so he was trying to chase him down to the finish line (and thus ran too fast.)

BUT - Mustang altogether (with reaction time added in) ran 13.001, xA ran 12.821 altogether, so the xA would have won either way.

I do alot of bracket racing on my motorcycles. We grew up with it as my dad has always had at least one drag car and we went every weekend. Growing up in Ohio has it perks, there's a racetrack in about every town haha. :)

OHHHHHH.. damn I feel stupid now... but yes, this makes total sense. For some reason my brain just didn't want to compute tree time and the fact that both cars do not leave at the same time in some cases

thanks for the clarification 33OH... U should be a teacher

I think that for grins I really need to give the 1/4 mile a whirl. If I do I will have to be prepared to dump another tranny into it again....haha

Ill have to dig around for the picture on my other phone, but my best last year was 16.3@84mph launching it soft on snow tires.

I could probably snab a 15 if i put stickies on it and kill the clutch
