Ditto.

And similar in price (note: i was never looking at the yaris RS or the fit sport topline models; and i was only ever looking at the 5door yaris too).

Plus them being in the same class (sub-compact) and all, with nearly same HP, torque, fuel efficiency, etc. etc. (even more so back in 07, before the new 09 fits came up w/ beefed up specs and offerings standard/available on it)

I loved the Civic Si Hatchbacks! I wanted one so bad...

I've owned 2 Civic Hatchbacks: 1988 Civic and a 1993 Civic VX. I loved them both very much!
I also owned a 1996 Civic HX CVT. I loved that car too.

I would say the answer to an MR2 would be the Del Sol VTech. I had a 1993 Del Sol Si and it was just the best car I've ever driven. In the summer it was that much better as I could go topless in less than 30 seconds. I would love it if Honda would remake the Del Sol as a hybrid.

The Fit and Yaris LB is a good comparison, but you can't compare a Civic to a Yaris Sedan. The Civic will mop the floor with a Yaris sedan, plus the Civic costs more and basically outclasses the Yaris.

I agree, the Del Sol is a good match for the MR2. I recently sold my `85 CRX Si but I still have my `85 MR2.

I almost bought a used Civic SI, but at the last minute I opted for the Yaris instead because the SI owner wanted as much money for his 9 year old Civic as the dealer for a couple years old Yaris, so I went with the newer car.

I owned a Honda Civic first gen. for a while, then got a 1987 CRX which I kept for a long time, until about 2 weeks ago. Hondas are good cars!!!

Because they don't make a civic hatchback anymore, the FIT is its replacement. In fact, I think it's the smallest Honda in the US.

I've never owned a Honda, just Toyota's and Nissan's. When I needed a car I didn't consider the Fit as equivalent to the Yaris. I never thought to compare. After I bought the Yaris, I became aware of the comparison. They are both great cars, but....................the Yaris is better!

Be glad that people comare the Yaris to another good car, and not a Hundai or Kia...

Another Civic hatchback lover here. I looked at several used ones before getting a new Yaris, in fact.

Anyone remember the Honda Accord station wagon? Or for that matter, the Accord hatchback? I saw a guy a few weeks ago with one of the HBs in mint condition.

I sure do! We had a Honda Accord HB before I got my first Honda, a used Civic first gen. I drove that thing to the ground. I saw an old Accord HB on Craigslist about a month ago, also mint condition, despite a lot of miles.

Dude, welcome to 2009. Hyundai is now among the best.

In the last 5+ years, Hyundai has made incredible gains in quality with their cars (styling too). They arent "shitboxes" anymore.

Even if one buys an Accent (and IMO the new ones are nice, save for the interior dash), you neednt fear it falling apart after the standard 5 yr / 100,000 km warranty expires.

And the new Elantra Touring (read: hatchback) that just came out... brilliant!! Id rather own it than a Toyota Matrix if I was shopping now in that class.

That's funny. So - over the last 5 years - hyundai has turned from the creator of "shitboxes" by your own terminology, to "one of the best."

How exactly do you know this?? Considering none of the cars created in this "5 year golden age of hyundai," have been in the consumers hands long enough to give conclusive results? I still don't see many 04 hyundais, and again, when I do, they sound like complete crap, and are just hobbling around town waiting to explode on some unsuspecting person. Maybe the complete restructuring and turnaround of hyundai didn't start til 05??

Actually forget it. If you think a company can go from turning out steaming piles to golden eggs overnight, there's no point in this conversation. Go buy a hyundai. I'm sure it will last 10 years, 200k miles with NO problems.

I dont think their cars are "one of the best" -- wasnt me who said that. I merely said they arent crap-cars anymore.

Now granted its only the latest gens that seem to be improvements. there isnt any long-term data to support that they wont fall apart after 5+ years, but with the if you read reviews, hyndais are being almost universally lambasted anymore by reviewers.

The quality of internal materials is now running close to par w/ others in their respective segments (eg. accent vs. yaris, elentra (touring) vs. corolla (matrix))

i woudlnt be surprised to see these current gen hyundais last 6,7,8 years.

and just to note, ive had my yaris now 3 years, and ive had lots of probs w/ it, and its a wonderful toyota product.

low-beam/high-beam stalk went (couldnt turn on highbeams), rust on breakpads causing whine when breaking, that damned bloody ABS sensor/harness BS (in now for my 4th fix... 3 sensors + the harness now!), radio stopped reading CDs when cold, that recent recall issue, etc)

I have an '07 Accent hatchback, and while it's no Yaris, it's a decent little car, about 50K miles and no problems at all yet.

I still love my Yaris 100000 times better.

Agreed... and by all accounts that new Genesis coupe is looking to become one heck of an enthusiast car... Nissan and Toyota/Subaru couldn't get off their asses to build the next-gen cheap RWD coupe, now Hyundai's beat them to it!

I don't think Subaru has anything except AWD.

Nissan's top stuff is AWD. And I think they have the 370z to compete in that Genesis segment. Even though the 370z costs more. Its much more car. You should be comparing it to the higher end Genesis Coupes anyways.

Ford's Mustang is pretty cheap. Starts at 20.

BMW's 128 is pretty close. I'd much rather get one of these. 135 would go up against the higher model Coupes.

Dodge has that challenger that starts at the same 22k price range.

Mazda has the RX-8 that starts at 26.

Toyota... they're Nascar now. Son. Idk wtf they're doing.

Soo, I think companies have been doing it. There's just another sparkle about the new Genesis.

Am I missing some running joke or something? You guys seriously think hyundais are nice? I realize not everyone reads consumer reports, but - I've asked this before, and I guess I'll keep asking - when was the last time you saw a hyundai driving around that was 5 years old or older? I see one a month tops, and invariably its making some god awful screeching/whining/hissing/"broken car" noise. Compare that with the 50 old hondas/toyotas that I see, and each one sounds like it still has 100k+ left in it.

Welcome to 2009, where your hyundai still sucks.
