Its not a recall, just a TSB, so they are not required to send it to the owner's.

Thank you CTScott for those TSB's (T-AC001-07) HVAC odor. I've had a stinky AC 4 months after I bought the car and Toyota said they don't warranty bad AC odors but would clean it for $150. bucks. I was at Toyota yesterday with the TSB paper. They checked the AC and that TSB is superseded by another that requires Toyota to replace the evaporator all under warranty. Thanks again CTScott

Well, I got the TSB performed yesterday, and the mold and mildew odor is totally gone from the A/C system. The job took them about 4 hours, and they returned the car with no scratches or squeaks. I think they did a really good replacing the evaporator and A/C amplifier. But, I still that I find I have some musty odor in the car, that I think is coming from the upholstery. I don't know if that is some residual odor. It also could be from an incident where my passenger seat got slightly wet when the window was down during a thunderstorm, but that was over 5 months ago. At this point, I guess I will go with some Febreze to try to eliminate any lingering odors. But I still think that getting the moldy smell coming from the A/C vents was well worth it. Especially when the cost was free.

Just got back from the dealership after an evap replacement. The odor is completely gone. They did however scratch the crap out of the silver panel around the AC controls. Should I ask them to replace it? I fear backlash from the mechanics over nit picky crap like that.

Suggestions?

Have them replace the panel. It was a warranty repair. And the panel just pops on. There should be no problem.

Time for me to print this out and bring it in. My 08 sedan has been having this intermitent problem. I have tried turning the heater on once and awile and turning the ac off while im about to reach my destination to allow the mosture to dry off so there wont be mold growing in th emorning. But to no advail. I notice out of random it will smell bad too. Glad to finally see a fix.

Exclamation outside USDM and Canada

Did anybody have trouble with this TSB outside USA and Canada?
or do you know if Toyota outside Canada and USA are required to honor it?

if they are, that would be great since I will get rid of the odor and fix my ringing timing chain.

Wow, what timing! I was just complaining to my wife that my cars smells musty after the AC has been on and it's been sitting in the hot sun for a couple of days. Maybe I'll bring it in.

Man, I love this place!

Toyota Confirmed that they would no honor the TSB as it was a US TSB. Anyone have any thoughts or experience on this? Why would the TSB only be for the US?

You could always call Toyota Canada and ask. Then complain.

got an appointment Monday the 31st to take care of this musty smell, thanks blazinbluevitz. I had to read the bulletin to the service guy, he was telling me not to run the airconditioning on recirculating.....my serial number requires only the evaporator

Tomorrow's the big day of surgery to have the evap. replaced under this TSB. Here's hoping the dash board doesn't get messed up taking it apart and putting it back together. I've stressed over having this done since I had a vehicle messed up before from a drain problem fix in the HVAC system, but those of you that posted saying the work was done and you were happy gave me encouragement to go ahead with it. I'll post how it all turned out if any one is a sitting on the fence wondering about having their car taken apart for this.

What year are your cars that you are having this done for free?

My stealership won't honor it because My car is a 2007, and has 53k miles, yet has the extended warrenty. Am I in the right, or are they?

From what the TSB says they are in the right. This is not a recall it just a bulletin meaning they don't have to fix it under the full warranty and can apply a different warranty to this.
