I'm guessing this project is permanently dead?

It is coming, at some point, when Scott feels it is ready. And when he thinks it is ready, it will be bug free, which is really important.

There's also a point where it'll be pointless since the car it was originally meant to go in has changed (center mounted cluster is no more in the 2012 Yaris).

There's also the point that 95% of us waiting for it don't have 2012 models. It's not about placement, as long as it has the same square clock module, it'll replace it. Doubt that the location of the cluster makes ANY difference, and if it does, that's why he's going to include a USB interface and will be pushing out firmware updates.

I would say I'm about 85-90% likely to buy at $150, and 80-85% likely at $200.

Simply for the ability to read the codes without bugging my buddy with an OBDII reader, it's worth the money.

It's not about the money, it's about the time. Scott has to work for a living, and has a family to support and spend time with. He's stated numerous times he WILL get this project done, but work and family come first.

It won't be "pointless" to get it done, as 90% of us will still have our Yaris when it is completed and are still looking forward to it.

I have never actually brought it to market because the cost of a daylight readable display is cost prohibitive. I have been working on a WiFi based OBD dongle, where you use your phone, laptop, etc. with it. I realize that there are many similar devices out there, but the advantage to mine will be the Toyota specific pieces that others don't offer (like the ability to read and reset trouble codes on any of the ECU's, as opposed to just on the ECM).

That's the hard reality of production: it doesn't matter how cool it is if you can't get it to market at a price people are willing to pay. Perhaps you should have the thread locked?

No - I don't mind keeping it alive. I run my own engineering consulting firm now, so I am hoping that at some point I will have a similar display need for a customer project, where I can purchase them in enough of a volume to hit the right price point.
