To the OP, I'd say keep the sedan. They're better.
![]() If you have spare cash, and it seems that you do considering you're willing to trade at such a loss, use it for mods. Get a body kit and a nice set of wheels and a drop and throw on a rear spoiler. You'll be glad as hell that you bought a sedan.

This is interesting because you appear so passionate about the liftback but you bought a sedan. Can I assume that was what was on the lot at the time? As stated previously...it would be a disaster to trade the car in now, quite possibly the worst financial decision you could make to really gain - nothing. These are cool little cars but man...they are commuter econocars. To get turned upside down by many thousands of dollars would be counter-intuitive to what the car stands for. I say keep the sedan, learn to like what you have and if you really don't want or like it, trade it in around the 2 year mark. I believe that you be your best economy of scale (and that is selling on the private market).

Life's too short to drive a car you don't like, trade your sedan for the better Yaris!

OP. Tell us again really specifically why you want a liftback again? I'd be curious to see your pros and cons for each style.
Ultimately, the heart wants what the heart wants, so if you really want it that bad, go for it. However, I would highly recommend that you spend some time test driving one just to be sure before you order it. People think the difference between the Yaris Sedan and the LB is only cosmetic, but it's really a different car. I LOVE hatchbacks myself, and haven't owned anything else for a lot of years and would not consider a sedan. On the other hand, I've never exactly hated a car. I was too happy to have wheels to take me places, and believe me, I've driven some rust buckets back in my younger days ! ;) How can you hate a car?!! What's that poor thing done to you, lol?

Ok.....
One must be happy with and somewhat passionate about a car, otherwise what is the point etc? Having said that, have you considered selling it privately? It should be a quick sell with super low mileage and with the warantee still intact. You will still loose money but, not as much as trading it in. |

What's with all this hating from both sides? Both the sedan and the LB are great cars with separate entities. I don't know why Toyota decided to call the sedan a Yaris for. But anyway, stop with the hating, from both sides.

Yeah, in a way I wish the sedan was named "Vios" in the US. I like "Yaris" as well, but the distinction between the two models would be nice. "Belta" definitely wouldn't have worked in the US. It's a lousy sounding name. Economically for Toyota, it was necessary to market the two together. It costs a ton of money for each individual model name a company markets.

After some reconsideration and weighing pros and cons, I will stick with the Sedan. I'm going to suck it up and love my car! Maybe from two years from now, I'll be selling my car to pay it off to get a diff model.
Ever since I joined this website, I've been looking at members cars and my eyes were physically attracted to the liftbacks more than the sedans. That was the main cause why I was thinking of switching models. I should just lease. lol Thank you guys for your advice and input. |

smart move. besides, in 2 years (??) a new yaris model will be out and you know you will be looking at that. by going the route you have chosen you will be in a better position at that time.

I hate to say it but you could have had the best of both worlds if you had gotten the 5 door hatchback. I have the 3 door hatch and I love it but I am a station wagon gal at heart and would really like the 5 door. I just sold my PT Cruiser which is the 5 door hatch and I miss the back doors. Maybe that was a factor when you purchased your sedan. If you were going to haul people then that would be the best way to go. I don't have kids to haul anymore so it really didn't matter. If I have something too big to put in the very back, I just push the seat forward and I have plenty of room.

A nice thing about the sedan is that a big trunk full of stuff doesn't cut into your passenger space.

what if I Trade it in and then get a certified pre owned liftback valued at $13k. My trade in value for my 2010 would be about $13k--modest estimate.
I would owe less than what I currently owe? |

Honestly, I've wondered about this a little too. My car is paid off though. But just wondering how dealers would react to essentially an even trade, or possibly even a scenario where my trade-in value is slightly higher than their asking price (in the case of used hatchbacks, for example). Or in the case of new cars, wondering how open they would be to negotiating close to my trade-in value. I'm nowhere near actually doing this, but it has floated around in my head sometimes...

one thing i like about my sedan that beats the hatchback on is the RPM meter, hatch doesn't come with it, only the sedan does stock =P. Otherwise if i can go back in time I would pick the sedan still....but in manual
