FWIW, I think it's too bad that Daihatsu is pulling out of Europe and that Europeans aren't lucky enough to essentially get the 2nd and 3rd Gen Yari available new simultaneously past the 2013 model year (although to do so might not (or even likely doesn't) make sense to the brass at Toyota).
Right now they can thoug. They can either buy the 3rd gen Yaris from Toyota, or the 2nd gen Yaris, as Charade, from Daihatsu. There's even a hybrid Yaris.

Japanese business laws are different than the US. In Japan if you own 51% of a company it is considered fully owned.

It's not a real Daihatsu and selling a Toyota product as a Daihatsu i'm against it personally.I have both brands i can tell you the driving experience is nothing a like.

Daihatsu engines are small but terrible in a good way. it's bonkers. strong for what it is.

Toyota is more of civillized and tamed, frugal and economical. The driving experience on both is totally different.

actually in some markets, if you own 50%+1 of the shares of a company, you fully own the company. example, if the 50%+1 of the shares are sold out to and bought by the government, then it is said to be government-owned company.

that isn't surprising. The only reason I even know this about Japan is because it was mentioned when Toyota bought the 51% of Daihatsu.

Too funny. I brought this up on a thread last year, but I found this out on Wikipedia and learned supplemental facts via internet searches. I later used this info to answer a question on a different thread. On both of these threads there were subsequent posts by other people that didn't mention Astroman's thread either. I didn't know about Astroman's thread until today, and apparently the other posters on the threads from last year I referred to didn't either. Too bad, as Astroman was clearly the first to write about this and more information is always preferable .
