Factory Alarm on my '08 Liftback is Too Sensitive!
I tried looking at as many threads regarding alarms on here, but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.
MANY THANKS AHEAD OF TIME FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE!!! Here it goes: I have a 2008 Yaris Liftback, which I bought new from Toyota Central in Downtown Los Angeles over three years ago. I was able to get them to throw in a car alarm for free with my purchase (so I'm not sure what the quality of the alarm is, as they covered the cost and were not happy about it). HERE'S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW: Does anybody know where the sensitivity adjustment dial for an alarm installed on a Yaris Liftback could be located at? It is far too sensitive and needs to be turned down. I have already taken the car in to have this adjusted while it was under warranty, and now they want to charge me for it as I'm out of the warranty. I don't think that's fair, as the alarm should be able to function properly — to no fault of my own. HERE'S WHAT I KNOW ABOUT THE ALARM: 1) It works with the same keyless entry remote that's on the keys. 2) The only documentation I have for it is a mere, 4-page booklet showing you the different arm and disarm settings for it. Nothing about installation, or the location of its components. 3) I'm not sure if it is in fact, an RS3200 or RS3200 Plus factory alarm system, and may be something possibly cheaper (as again, the dealer had to cover the cost when we made the deal). 4) It uses my car's horn to sound the alarm, and doesn't have a horn of its own. 5) The company stated in the tiny booklet for the alarm is referred to as "CODE". SEVERAL THANKS AGAIN FOR ANY HELP!!! |

Is the keyless entry remote a Toyota one? If the system is a real RS3200, then if you remove the passenger lower glove box and look to the right behind it, the module will be there.

I'll take a look at that spot and get back to you.
Thanks for this. |

Ok, so I accessed the area behind the glove compartment, and here are two pictures of what's to the right of the area. Is this the factory alarm assembly? And if so, how can I adjust the sensitivity?

The big white empty connector in the left picture, says that you do not have the factory alarm. Look behind the pocket to the left of the drivers knee or behind the panel that flips down beneath the steering column for a non-OEM alarm.

I'm going to check right now and get back. The dealership is not being helpful, as I was just on the phone with them trying to get the model of the alarm installed.

OK - Definitely aftermarket, but not yet pictured. Follow those wires connected to the reddish-pink tap splices (in the two left pics) and they should eventually lead to a little black box.

Theoretically all of them will be headed to the alarm module.
