Cold Air Intake & Milage
Was just wondering if and what kind of MPG gains people have seen with an aftermarket intake. Obviously this will vary a little depending on brand etc... but I'm just looking for a rough idea.
I realize that many people with performace upgrades drive higher in the power band to see/feel the maximum benefit from the mod(s) and these people will likely not see any MPG gains as a result, but I'm talking just plain moderately conservative driving. Sorry if this has been posted, I didn't see it in the search. Also posted here in the fuel economy based on the nature of the actual question, but mods, if you think this should be in the tech/performance forums, feel free to move. |

Personally, mpg gains = none with my PRM SRI. This is with a conscious effort to drive conservatively to see if I did realize any +/- impact on fe.

That's a little disapointing to hear, not that I was expecting much, but a solid 1-2MPG increase would have been nice under regular driving conditions.
Ah well... not like it'll stop me fron doing it! Anyone else have better luck? |

I wouldn't expect to see any gains. Intake header exhaust I got 32mpg ALL CITY driving.
Got 39mpg in 32f weather at a 75mph cruise with intake and supercharger (set to come on at 50% throttle input) yesterday

especially with cooler weather, I think a cai may hurt mileage. I've seen people trying to improve their mileage by making a warm air intake and reported some improvement.
I've recently started using android torque in my car and noticed mileage is really bad while the engine is cold |

That's why mine comes out the day winters are mounted. Goes back in the day summers are mounted.

Dont waste your money...remove the carbon filter out of the air lid and leave it alone if you want good fe.
I just experimented with a rear muffler delete...dropped 3 mpg which resulted in my 3rd tank ever to be below 40mpg...so my stock rear section is going back on asap!

Man, I was so impressed that I saved nearly 5MPG (70/30 highway) with the intake on my Camaro. I was hoping to see some gains, but I guess it's just not in the cards. Thanks guys for your input!

When im.trying to save gas im driving the car so lightly that any "gains" in airflow in or out are not benificial since i run the motor with very low demand that it has no use for that additional flow.
