16ins wheels

My turbo Vios which is really just like a Yaris 4 door was built by TRD and comes with 7.0J 205/45 R16 with Michelin tyres. The overall circumference is much the same as 15ins wheels and tyres but my lower profile 7ins tyres stick like glue in really fast sweepers. The car is also lowered by TRD 30mm with no problems whatsoever. This car handles great and is 100lbs lighter than a Yaris. My problems are having more power than needed getting of the line which causes the front wheels to bounce and bottom out unless you are real smooth on the throtle.(this is with TRD modified suspension)When being real smooth it also helps to control the torque steer you get with the 143hp I have.So how do the the guys with 180 plus hp drive there cars fast I don't know. But I recommend my tyre and wheel set up for a great feel to the car and I'm fairly sure they will work a treat on a Yaris.

Why? Because they look cool...

So, question...why oh why, if you dont like rims, do you find yourself looking at and posting comments in a thread about rims? I mean, its like a blind man going into a Lenscrafters and saying he hates glasses. No one really cares that it slows out cars down...its a flipping yaris...it barely has 100hp...the 0.01 second loss in our quarter mile time of 17 seconds is not really going to be missed...and at my average of 46mpg in the city, I can stand to loose a mpg or two in the name of style.

In summary...go talk out of your ass in a thread with people who care about your opinion.

Not if the overall diameter with tires and wheels is the same as stock -- which is how it is usually set up. It won't make a bit of difference.

And larger wheels will give you better MPG -- not worse. Simply put, a larger wheel and tire travel a further distance after one rotation than a smaller diameter wheel and tire -- requiring less rmps for said distance traveled -- at a cost of torque and "power".

You could say weight would make the difference. The reason "alloy" wheels were invented was to save weight. But they can weigh more than stock wheels -- in either case, you may be sacrificing MPG when acceleratingly, but when the car is up to speed the added weight will tend to stabilize the car at said running speed -- further saving gas.

That all said, I got 15" wheels with the normal amount of rubber for no other reason than to lessen the chance of curbing the wheel. There are many reasons to choose wheels. "off the line" is one -- one I don't care much for -- but if you wanted to get the best MPG from your wheels and tires -- get the biggest thing that will fit under the strut.

Guys, don't take this as hating on big wheels.

But really, that post is so erroneous it hurts to read.

Larger tire rolling diameter *increases* mpg? ok, see I thought rolling a heavier, bigger tire that's farther from the axis of the wheel would take more power, not less.

"Get the biggest thing that will fit under the strut? You've got to be kidding me right? So 21's with truck sized tires are good for performance and mileage? news to me.

You might try *thinking* in a common sense way before posting. Lighter, smaller tired, wheels will ALWAYS outperform a larger, heavy wheel, with big tires. Ever hear something called friction? You know, how it takes more power to turn a wider wheel? Ok good.

So, all things being equal (car, tire size, ride height, air pressure), a 15" wheel that weighs 17lbs will give better performance and mileage than some 10lbers? NOTE: this is not a hard question, if it was, supercars wouldn't place such a large emphasis on making any weight that's unsprung as light as possible.

I really dont want to do this, but I will. There is no diffrence if you have 15's or 17's,if the diameter is the same, everything else will be the same, because the car is still turning a 205,or 215.But for the most part, people go wider when they go bigger, which does add weight and rolling resitence, thats where most people loss performance,I myself use 35psi on all tires to help balance out the diffrence,Ive got 17's instead of my stock 15's.
Think of it this way,you could have a 1 incn rim,the rest just tire, but the diameter is still 215,the engine would act the same, ofcourse you wouldnt stay on the road long;),so that said,I actually feel alot more stable with my 17's and skinny rubber, and just as quick as stock, actually alot quicker now.

Looks great! But when you say amazing difference, what exactly are you referring to? I've got the shit stock Bridgerock 14s and am very unsatisfied with the handling...want to upgrade to alloys but to what size? 15,16 or 17s? And why?

Well thanks, I mostly drive somewhat aggresively, if there's a corner I like to push it a bit. But with stock 14s it feels like I've reached the limit just at about what feels like the speed I'd like to easily do. The rest of the time is, you know, Seattle traffic etc. with some shit ass bumpy road surfaces. I'm thinking that the 17s might not have enough give for our pot holes, but maybe the 16s would be a reasonable compromise between handling and bump absorbtion. What d'ya think?
