Seriously, I have been thinking a lot about quitting lately and this thread has basically helped convince me. That is $75 a month that I spend on the stupidest habit ever. Thanks for keeping it real boys.

yeah man i used to smoke a pack a day mostly at work b/c in my shop everyone smokes... then i got a really bad cold and had trouble breathing for a bout a week, scared the shit outta me so i decided to quit. so just after that i bought the yaris i said f-it i dont want to ruin this car with ash stains and burn marks on the fabric and have it smell like an ashtray. so right now ive been good for 10 weeks the only bad part is people still smoke at my shop... they come over and ask "hey you still keeping strong on not smoking etc.." as they are smoking in my face anyways, i still get the urge once and a while like if im drinking or stuck in traffic. but so far so good. its worth it, the money i been saving is enough reason alone...

When I got my Yaris my gf convinced me not to smoke in it, then a few weeks later she finally convinced me it would be a good time to quit. I would normally smoke a pack a day. I've been on the patch for 2 weeks, it helps more than I thought it would, but I still sneak one in every couple of days.

Wink

Screw the patch you are still on the nicotine. Just STOP, sure you'll be a little bitch for a few days and you'll wake up at night wanting one - first thing in the morning will suck -but you'll see how strong you can really be when you toss 'em and show the fuckin' world whose boss. It's your money and your body so if you want to throw it away go ahead, but don't blow that shit in my face. I would suggest picking up a habit of lifting weights or something to benefit yourself rather than destroy yourself.

by the way I was a heavy smoker from a very young age until my 27th year, I smoked anywhere between 1 pack to 3 packs a day (if I pulled an all nighter), I no longer drink or smoke-anything, or do any kinds of drugs

^ yeah really... screw the patch, cold turkey works best. youll want to kill for a about a week or so, but after that it gets a little better. esp. when you can start smelling things and actually taste food correctly again

I've tried cold turkey and it just doesn't work for me, so this time I figured I'd try something different. I figure I'm spending less on the patch then I did on cigs so why not try it. So far it seems to be working better than cold turkey for me.

I used the patch ,after 32 years of smoking, and it has worked (1 year so far...). The trick this time (yeah, I "quit" maybe 5 times before) was NOT to start on the high-strength one, but on the middle strength patch. Apparently the high-strength is really high, so it is like sudden;ly smoking more, and then having to quit. The middle-strength is much less, and so it feels like you are cutting down immediately.
Anyhoo, it worked for me. YMMV
Bottom line - whatever works is worth doing.

Congratulations Typer73 !!!
I took the same route as you. 24 yrs of smoking and many times tried to quit with no luck. With the Chantix I am happy to say I have not smoked in 10 days. Finally quit that nasty habbit.
Again... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I smoked about a pack a day for 20 years. About 3 years ago I just sorta binged out on cigs, and it disgsted me so much I just stopped. You will know you have quit for good when you walk by some smokers and instead of wanting to bum one, you will avoid them all together because it makes you sick to smell their smoke. Try cigars for a while, but only when having a drink. Soon you will be really disgusted and quit fully.

Richmond is a tobacco town, and now the resturaunt are starting to go smoke free. I am very excited when I go to a previously smokey place and read "Smoke-Free" on the door! I hate eating while smelling smoke!
