Synthetic oil. Can it Really Go 10,000 miles? - Page 2 - Toyota Yaris Forums

Yeah, I know it condenses in the exhaust, but with a 20+ mile each way, I'm surprised it rust thru so soon. I mean 8 yrs isn't fast but its too soon for me,lol
I have been using synthetic oils exclusively since after the 1st change, and I still have been doing changes between 3-5k miles. Maybe I should extend that out a bit....

The local Toyota dealer sent me a flyer last week.

Service specials: Synthetic oil change $20 more than conventional oil change.

Parts special: Synthetic oil kit (Toyota oil/filter/gasket) $10 more than conventional oil kit.

Doesn't make any sense to me.

Stay away from the stealership.

Cost wise it makes sense for me.

I get 4 litres of Castrol Magnatec fully synthetic 5w30A5 for anywhere between £18 - £24 and I buy Mann oil filters when there is a discount for about £6 each. When pushed to 10,000 miles plus a couple litres top up between. Plus my time to do it. I'd say synthetic is cheaper than doing conventional oil and the filter every 3000 miles. I honestly can't say i know anyone who uses dino oil except for classic cars or an ocassional old banger on its last MOT. Maybe if you do lower mileages it would be ok. I did 30,000 miles last year.
