I'm sure there are some Toyota engines that'll take crazy amounts of power. The problem with boosting the NZ1-FE is the offset crank design... puts a lot of side-loading pressure on the rod. But its supposed to be a more fuel efficient design...!
I'd say wait for new rods! (IMVHO)

Yea i think rods would make more sense at this point... but of course, if I was to open her up I'd probably do it all at once.

Smart move. My thought, if you are going to build a motor, do the whole thing.

The thing I've seen that snaps rods is higher RPMS more so than 50HP on a stock motor. Figure the increase of 100 HP is 25hp per cylinder, about what a 150cc Honda CRF150R makes with a rod the size of a spoon. high RPM's will increase piston speed, and it's the point at which the piston stops traveling upward that the rod recieves the greatest stress.
I think this is why a lot of guys like the Supercharger idea, because your operating RPMs do not change drastically. I think leaving the rev-limiter stock, or within a couple hundred RPM's of the stock set-up would help against snapage. I could be talking out my a$$ thoguh, I am a motorcycle guy, and we deal with redlines in the 16,000 range. =) I know cars are more sensitive. D
