Mike Haviland is a man just like you and me. He puts his pants on one leg at a time, but when he puts his pants on, he can be satisfied with the knowledge that he has created greatness in the form of a B Mod Honda Z600. To call the car a Z600 is to miss the point, as this car is really a complete one-off with a shell that happens to resemble a Z600. 1195lbs, 168hp in place of the armrest and enough rubber for a weekend at the mansion. This car absolutely rocks.
The car started life with the goal of being a turbocharged D Mod car, but rules changes ended up making the car ineligible because it has a motorcycle engine. Under the skin is a formula SAE inspired setup with bellcranks and laydown shocks and springs. Interestingly, with the engine where a passenger would normally be, the side-to-side weight difference with the driver is only 7 pounds.
The concept is somewhat similar to the Kimini which was an inspiration for the build, but with a pure focus on the track. If in some alternate reality the world was a giant parking lot with cones scattered all around it, this would basically be the ideal machine.
(go to youtube and search honda 600 w/1300 hyabusa)

While looking for information on the Prodrift series a few days ago, I came across this hybrid car. I have heard a lot about the LS2 engine and people wanting to put into their car, seems like there are many advantages to running a big torque engine...... Personally, I'm not very familiar with the LS2 engine or any other engine derived from it..... All I know is that this engine came out of a Vauxhall Monaro (Vauxhall is part of the GM group and is also called a Opel in other countries) and the car was build in Ireland by Chubby McCord from Hi Octane Imports. But first things first, the car itself, let's have a look:

The standard SR20 leaves plenty of space in the engine bay of a S15. How different does it look now? As you can see, the engine has got some help from eight throttle bodies to help it breath better; I wonder how this animal sounds like when it passes you on full throttle. You American guys should know the sound, but for us Europeans it's still something special, hearing a V8.

I'm always amazed by the graphics that the Irish lads put on their cars. Everybody knows the graphics made by Mana-P on the D1 cars but I really feel that the graphics found on the cars in the Prodrift Series can hold their own. The color of the car works very well with the flashy yellow and pink graphics.
From the rear it looks even more impressive with the huge spoiler. You can also see some pink shining through the paintjob. Very well executed.

The new Work XD9 rims are finding their way on cars in every kind of sport, from Time Attack to full on drift cars. These white ones feature a cool yellow thin line to give it something special. Behind the wheels I see some K-sport calipers and rotors.

The bodykit Is made by BN-Sports and you can find it on almost every S15 out there, but then again it is also one of the best looking si why not...... You can see that the wheels really struggle to get from under the wide rear arches.

The fully stripped interior painted in contrasting blue has a pair of Sparco bucket seats, flocked dashboard (it stops the sun from blinding you), Sparco steering wheel and a built rollcage. The signature green harnesses are off course from Takata. The dashboard also has a custom made display to show the driver all the vitals on one screen.

Is this the way forward in building driftcars? I have heard a lot of rumors from different car builders in Europe that they will go for the ‘cheaper' American engines rather than a RB or a SR engine. What do you think?

There haven't been a lot of post about diorama's or model cars lately, but I feel that they are an important part of our community. So when I came across this diorama made by Wilco Machiels, I had to post them up on Speedhunters. Another nice detail is of course the VW's that are placed inside these diorama's.

Like most car enthusiasts, you start to build model cars and quickly realize that you suck at it.... But there's always the exception and that is Wilco... he started at the age of seven and has since then mastered the technique of building realistic model cars and dioramas like no other.

All the models and diorama's have been build in 1:24 scale and are made to represent the garage's from the 1960's. Wilco says "I love the nostalgic garages of the 1960's - dirty, a little cluttered and rather disorganized and untidy - I like to recreate them just the way they were". He always starts out with a model and then builds the garage around it, he often takes parts from other kits to enhance the look and feel of the diorama's.

The detail on this VW bus is amazing. The rust and the battered paint shows that it had a hard life, I'm guessing that it just unloaded the crate engine.
2.jpg
This more customized Beetle with its deep dish wheels is getting some work done on the rear. It looks like there is some welding going on, maybe a leaking exhaust?. The shop owner must have thought better be safe than sorry so he has a fire extinguisher at the ready.
3.jpg
This beetle is undergoing some major overhauling. It is getting a new engine and it seems that the drum brakes are getting refreshed.
4.jpg
This bus is getting a fresh lick of paint and maybe some rust removed around the arches. It is already rolling on some new wheels. Al the diorama's that Wilco makes feature real lighting as you can see on the wall.
5.jpg
Here we have a lot of spare parts that are scavenged from other models to make this diorama complete. Did you notice the Continental sign just right of the door?
6.jpg
This looks more like a donor car but it makes for a great addition to this diorama.
7.jpg
A scratch build tire exchanger.... just so you now that Wilco is truly a king amongst modelers. I'm amazed at all the details and still find new things to marvel at.

For more, be sure to check out Wilco's diorama's there you can find a lot of other diorama's and some of them are even for sale.

I owe a big thank you to Wilco for providing me with these pictures.

Only Chip Foose could make brown look so good. The story goes that one of his customers brought in a Breitling watch and asked Chip to make his car the same color. This was the result, a 1970 Plymouth Barrauda painted in Terracuda Brown with California Gold stripes, both of which are part of Foose's new line of paints developed with BASF. The Terracuda is much more than just the paint, however, and is up to the high standard that is common among all Foose vehicles. The unibody of the original car was removed and replaced with a custom frame designed by Chip and built by Art Carr, and every panel of the car has been changed in some way. The front axle has been moved forward three inches to create less of an overhang, and the rear bumper has been cut down and tucked in. Under the hood is Mopar's 392ci crate engine that is mated to a Tremec 5-speed transmission and a Ford 9-inch rear end. The interior is completely custom as well, with Ferrari leather covering carbon fiber seats. Last of all, a set of Foose-designed wheels were added and painted to match the rest of the car.
