Ya, I find getting more than 45MPG a bit unrealistic also.
I get an average of about 35MPG ( and I kind of baby it to see what is the best I can get) Last fill-up 50%city , 50%hwy 40Liters / 10.57 Gallons and driven 575km / 357 miles. That averages to 6.96L/100km or 33.81MPG. I drive a 07 Yaris RS hatch, 5 speed, 5 door.

Yea, so far my average is about 33 mpg, but time is money and the 4 or 5 mpg isn't worth the loss on time, most of the time that is.
Seriuosly tho, crusing at about 50-55 will get 45+ mpg w/ no stops. Just for you guys tho, i'll do a expressway run to my buddys house @ 55mph. The longest with no stops is about 15 miles long so that should give a nice average. |

How many gallons does that Yaris use per fuel bar? I have 132 miles on my Yaris and the fuel bar went down once and I filled it back up to and that only took a little over two gallons I think? So far I'm really amazed at the fuel,I'm used to a V6 Ford Ranger 4X4 that got about 16 to 18 mpg.

^^^ each bar will be a bit different in different cars, and it also depends on how you drive. (how many miles you get per "bar")

Its impossible to believe that the car could get >45 m/g. I am one of the first owners of 3dr manual lb in US. Don't drive it a lot. Has put ~1500miles and getting 38-39 m/g with roughly 50/50 city-expwy and freeway driving. I drive like a granny and baby the car to get the best mileage. Tell me if I am missing something but how could some of you guys getting nearly 45-5- m/g!!!!!

Just did a 30 mile run. Here it is:
30.9 miles drove 3400 max RPM 61 MPH avg 51.2 MPG avg At about 65mph it drops to roughtly 45mpg then on the way back at 80 mph it doesnt' like goin above 35mpg Keep in mind this is pure highway, no stops, not even slow downs (besides ipass toll booths to like 30mph) I average normaly about 32-34 mpg but its 90% city and i cant really baby the thing sometimes. But w/ goin extremely easy on it i'v gotten 38-40 mpg city. Its also easier w/ a MPG gauge too. Make sure you coast to a stop, alot, and even taking turns fast helps w/ MPG. Putting it in neutral helps too since for some reason when backing off the gas puts the PCM into open loop which causes it to slightly engine break and the car doesn't "en-lean" like the GM cars i'v owned. Another factor is if you have a stick or an auto. If you have a stick your not going to shift 100% on time for the best MPG. Auh long night, i'm crashin. |

1000km drive to Minot, ND from Regina, SK =
Just over 50L of fuel = 47mpg 5.1L/100km Flat driving (in the prairies/plains) 110km/hr, very little city driving or slowing down. (7.5 gallon fill in Minot, 20L left in Regina). |

As said before, people need to take the average after 3-4 full fill ups. Going one mile, adding gas, and saying "I am getting 200MPG" is pretty bad. Anything over 42 is wrong and anything under 30-32 is wrong.
Everybody should just realize that we are getting great MPG whether it be 35 or 40 mpg. Kevin |

I was a little baffled when I saw that Toyota.ca listed the Yaris as getting something like 51mpg vs. the US Yaris's 40mpg until I realized the discrepency was between US mpg and imperial mpg.
It would be helpful if everyone who posts mpg specify whether it's US or imperial. |

Members used to encounter similar confusions in the earlier part of the "Fuel Economy" thread but now I think members who pay regular visits to that thread have already noticed the problem. Now, they often post their mpg numbers under both the Imperial and US systems. Some even also post their numbers under the metric system. Every now and then, members there post links to sites which calculate mpg numbers under practically all systems for free.

If this keeps up, we'll have members required to tell whether they were driving with or against the wind, when they post mileage figures.

http://scangauge.com for more info. and the 51 MPG is US MPG, i live right above chicago as if thats enough to hint its US MPG People say they are having trouble getting this milage, you will have to take a 500 mile trip w/o any stops in order to notice it on a tank fill up. |
