Just saw one at the dealer today (5 door le grey), i like everything but the rear end. I would be interested in the 3 door L which makes the car priced nicely with the rebate!

I drove a loaded Accent with the auto tranny a while back.Really nice but even with what appears to be a very good warranty I'd still be concerned about it's unproven reliability. Not that I'd expect it to equal the Yaris or any Toyota but still.

As a Mark 3 owner I do like it.... Looks like a Auris at the front and that seems to be a way toyota seem to be doing things at the moment, trying to keep the family identity in all their cars.

I had a 2003 Elantra and it was every bit as reliable in the time I had it as the Yaris. My only complaint was that I didn't get the hatchback.

i had always been a "toyota guy", but i have no reservations about hyundai anymore after spending some time in their vehicles. toyota all but admits they cant sell the yaris on any tangible merits vs the accent or fiesta with their new ad campaign: yaris. its a car |

They lost me by getting rid of the center instruments in the 2012 model.
One advantage I found with the center pod was I could mount my Garmin GPS right in front of me. I have a large very accurate speedo in front of me that also lets me know what the speed limit is. And as a musician I can switch over to the map when getting close to a new location. All the time still looking forward and not having to divert my eyes off the road. And it doesn't block my view out the windshield. |

I dont know if we will ever like them cause the moderators wont make sections for the new 2012 owners even though the car is available now.

There is a section for the 3rd gen Yaris already, and this thread is in that section. Also, moderators cannot make new categories, just moderate threads. I wish the admins would give us those privileges since their presence isn't common on here. We tried to get eTiMaGo super mod privileges but they wouldn't do it.
Back on topic, my answer is still no. |

I adore the 2012 restyle, especially in 3-door guise. Has a sharp Euro-look to it, very refreshing.

Nope, look as I might I can't warm up to the funny pointy nose and stern looking headlights. The dash is alright-similar to a TC I suppose. Like the idea of one wiper, but it sure makes wind noise at freeway speed. Looks like it will be a Mazda2 for me next time even though I prefer Toyota mechanicals. Wish we could get the Toyota Aygo here-love the look of that cutie.

Now that I've seen one in person, I am less likely to switch. Not that there was much of a chance of that anyway, but if something were to happen to Sprocket I don't think I'd consider the new Yaris. It lost a lot of its "character" if you ask me, and I mistook a Matrix for one a few weeks back.
Honestly, if I were in the market I am not sure what I'd get. I do like the subcompact hatch concept, and while there are some nice ones out there I still don't have a positive feel for any one in particular. We had a Fiesta S as a rental a few weeks back and it had a horrible transmission slip issue (and the other rental, which was also a Fiesta, suffered the same problem). I just can't warm up to the Accent, even after seeing a bazillion Hyundais when I was in Korea two months ago. The Mazda2 comes close and it pretty much looks the same as the old Yaris (which is a good thing), but it's built on the same DE platform as the Ford Fiesta. It's pretty much assured I will keep my Yaris for a while, I don't put a lot of miles on it (20K in three years) and it's holding up pretty well. For an entry-level vehicle I wonder how it will fare at the 5-year point and beyond, but I take good care of it so hopefully it will make it to ten years or even longer. Cheers! M2

I'm not liking the goofy looking dash with all the lost storage compartments and the heated or cooled cup holders. The outside is a bit over styled for my tastes. I don't see any other small hatch that is worth trading my cherry '08 for.

Finally got a chance to check one out.
The 2012 dash layout made me feel claustrophobic compared to the open layout of my sedan. I really prefer the previous generation with the center cluster. Last edited by Chuck G; 11-07-2011 at 06:17 PM. Reason: I'm an idiot |
