1. No forced induction system is CARB legal in CA. Neither is a header or many other smalll bolt-on mods.
2. You have 5 years before you have to do smog in CA with our cars.
3. It would probably pass (if you keep your cats) but you have to find someone who will pass the visual part of the inspection. I do not consider that cheating if the car passes the actual smog test.

visual is key, but i had a friend here in ontario who has a matrix xrs with intake, ported throttle body and intake manifold, ported header and a header back exhaust with failed catilytic converter and he STILL passed emissions!

I wonder this often. I live in back woods PA and an inspection is nothing more than checking tread, lights, and your horn.

I thought we were talking about emissions/smog?
It would be fun to compare bits of the vehicle code from state to state.

We don't have any inspections up here, only in the major Metropolitan areas.

One of my good friends at work is originally from Ohio and he had a busted ass cavalier that had been on its last leg since it could stand. More exhaust leaks than you can count, broken turn signal, burn oil like I eat popcorn, and had a crack in the windshield that was quite impressive. He drove that car this way for well over a year and a half in Ohio. He came to NY, got pulled over 4 time in his first 2 months here then bought a new car. He tells me that the only inspections that Ohio does are road-side stops (much like PA's and NY's sobriety check points for DUI to my understanding). My uncle lives in OK and he tells me that they don't have yearly inspections either.

Kinda make me want to move the hell out of here and run straight pipes on every vehicle I own.
