Sometimes AC use can impact mpg a lot. I remember driving I-90 one summer in my 96 Toyota Tercel ,4 speed manual . Even at 75 mph I was getting 42 mpg. When it got hotter I turned the AC on and my mpg dropped way down to 37 driving the same speed.

I will calculate my fuel average twice a year. Driving conditions vary greatly here in Alberta. So once in winter and once in summer, monitoring day to day averages aren't necessarily a good indicator. Driving conditions, throttle and traffic can skew your numbers. I run a very well maintained vehicle so excessive fuel consumption will show up quickly.
