ironically, i said the same thing about the K&N when it came out... except that i cant stand oiled filters so the AFE is better in my opinion.

I have the oiled filters in stock, but so far no one has gone for that option. Everyone likes the easy maintenance of the dry filters better.

Most reviews i have read on filter performance fall along these same lines: http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/
so it appears to me, the dry media work best, with the oiled media second, and the foam/stainless filters finishing worst. so that may explain some discrepency in sales.

i was looking up on some more info between the Pro Dry S and the Pro 5r http://www.dieselmanor.com/afe/afe.asp
so the oiled one (Pro 5R) has more air flow over the Dry S, maybe it would come down to ease of maintenance which would be the dry one, and how the air pollution is around where you live.

According to aFE, the oiled media has more airflow (as noted above) than dry, and therefore makes a tiny bit more power.
On our cars, with low horsepower to start with, this difference is negligible, so the dry makes more sense (lower maintenance).

really? i assumed given our low horsepower, a number would have a bigger percentage increase over same number on a higher horsepower engine. Either way, i was also thinking that hte one with more airflow would sound better, but then again im on stock exhaust.

i think the stock airbox might breathe rather efficiently as is, for stock setup. i think to fully use those ram air and such intakes, more modification is needed; but I'm just guessing here

On a stock set up then why bother putting in the TRD filter setup .
My engine only has the NST pullies and the AFE intake , and between the 2 , there is a marked differrance in response and fuel economy . All Positive . |
