Alright I understand that sympathetic thing... You don't think i feel the same? You don't think the car is a she to me? But its just i can't believe people are being so whiny. Its like bitching about some people dieing overseas by a different country, yet no one gave a crap about rwanda.. and yes that lambo in batman was sweet... but would the movie have been just as good if they have the whole lambo in cg? NO, if the tumbler was CG, would it have been as good? NO! and you know that. And im not here to discuss political views.. Its impossible to convince someone that one person is better than the other. But what can i do is try to convince you that this program helps a lot of people.

If you are saying poor people have to buy crappy old junkies to head to work with, they are still there... This program isn't as effective as it should be. You can still go on craigslist and easily find old cars. If you actually know how to shop for a car too... you can still find a car for less then 4500 that will give you low to no problems.. And IF you can afford a decent down payment and have a decent amount of credit... the yaris comes out to 200-300 a month... i mean... unless ur working at bk or have 2+kids... you should be able to pay for that, insurance, and house and food. unless you are one of those people who have more than they can afford. HUGE HOUSE crappy car/NICE CAR crappy house.

RIP little buddy...
I hear ya. I had a really hard time when I left behind my old Honda, which I had owned for .. 17 years!!! Seriously, it took me like about 3 months to get over it. Part of me still wonders if I did the right thing by trading it in, but what's done is done

On the other hand, I like being able to take off whenever, wherever, without having to worry about the car not making it to its destination

Ok. Let's think about this... using an estimate of 140 million tax returns for 2008 (based on 2006 data of 134mil. I couldn't find an accurate figure for 2008) and the cost of the 3bil CFC program and assuming the burden is equally distributed amongst tax payers we each will pay $21.43 for this program. Quit yer bitchin.

So, now take that 3bil and divide it by the amount of the rebate to determine how many cars get junked as a result of this program (I can't find any actual numbers so this is the easiest way to figure it out.) Let's use the lower rebate number - $3500.00 - to provide a high estimate of the number of cars junked - this works out to about 857,000 cars that will get junked. The number of registered passenger vehicles on the road is 251mil. So what's the percentage of used cars that will go missing never to be used again? .003%

I suppose I can understand the emotional aspect of it as Americans definitely have a love affair with automobiles. I just wish the people expending energy to bash this program would be more concerned about the millions of people that have no healthcare or go bankrupt due to illness or simply die because they can't afford a doctor.

Hmmm... dead car <-> dead person... Priorities people, priorities.

I fear the buying will stop after CfC ends..

CfC is getting rid of the cars that were cheap to buy and easy to come by. In the long run.. More and more dealers are closing their doors because they either lost their franchise or sales weren't good enough.. THe cost of a new car is going to go up. Competition will disapear and before we know it there will be one good used car lot and one new car lot.. Both will want you to sign over your house, give 2 pints of blood, and all your left socks before you get a loan. But at least the mileage will be 230MPG

bro because of the cash for clunkers, more people bought new cars... cheap to buy and easy to come by IS STILL THERE, we already discussed this.

It's not either/or. I'm a lot more fired up about that than about CFC. And thoroughly disgusted at the lies and FUD being spread by the shills for the health insurance companies! I work with this stuff every day.

have any of you saying this is a big waste of resources tried to sell a car recently? a shitty old one at that? nobody is buying shit cause nobody has any friggin money. don't see how this doesn't help try and solve some problems.

and just like TheRealEnth pointed out, it's not like every old POS car is off the road now. poor folks can still get their hands on some crappy ass rides that no one wants. my sister for example has a 10 year old malibu with 165,000 miles on it. it is a piece of crap chevy but still doesn't qualify for CFC. you think anybody is beating down her door trying to take that POS off her hands? no. but if someone wants to tell me where all these poor folks are that are buying up old POS cars please let me know.

no joke... plus.... if this car was "such a nice car"... the owner would be able to sell it for $4500 or more.... in which case the person is a d-bag for making a bad financial decision.
