If they make a hybrid they better not base it off the Yaris platform
I don't want to see a yaris community divided among a bunch of different models. I think it's cool that we have a polarity between the sedan and the liftback but I think that's enough differentiation as far as I'm concerned. |

they'll need a less expensive hybrid to compete with FOCUS hybrid and other hybrid models on the horizon . Whatever happened to the proposed stripped PRIUS that was to be less than $20 thou ? We would jump on a reasonably priced hybrid small pickup such as the TACOMA with the 1.8 ltr. or 2.4 for hauling , etc.. Liked the old CHEVY LUV , ISUZU Pup ( LUV ) , VOLKSWAGEN , MAZDA B2000 , etc..

I don't think the non US D4D requires urea. The diesel Mahindra truck that has been trying to make it's US debut has the urea setup. Perhaps our diesel is formulated differently and requires the urea and particle filter. I think the oil companies have control over who gets what formulation.

Diesel fuel's pretty much Diesel fuel, except that the U.S. now requires a very low sulfur level. Urea injection is one way of reducing nitrogen oxides in the exhaust system. Another way is to inject extra fuel into the exhaust ahead of a catalyst, the way Volkswagen does. Other ways to control it in the engine are the use of exhaust gas recirculation and modifying injection timing, both of which can reduce fuel efficiency a lot, and obviously injecting extra fuel does. Urea injection sounds like a good solution in a lot of ways, but it requires recharging the reservoir at regular service intervals with another consumable, and vehicles intended to use it are often rigged so they won't start when the urea's run out (after a short grace period to let you get to the shop.) Particle filters require cleaning out periodically, just like air filters have to be cleaned. Neither one's really a showstopper, but I hate to see added layers of complexity. And most oil change places don't carry the urea fluid or know what to do with it, or know how to clean out Diesel particle filters, so they put you back into going to the dealer for routine service, which I hate to do.

Yaris Hybrid? hmmmmmmmmm
Quote:
Toyota/Lexus has announced the LFA will be introduced Dec 2010, It starts at 475,000 without all the options therefore if the Yaris Hybrid is legit there would be no reason not to disclose this. Why also would they have a Hybrid Yaris since it would challenge the Prius? Thanks for posting.., |

fyi they offer hybrid camrys and highlanders not a fan of hybrids especially if you expect to keep it for more than the 3/36k in the long run you'll spend jus as much maintaining a hybrid compare to a gas after manufac warranty run out or failure to read and follow the owners manual you'll shell out upto almost 3bills for the aux battery an upto 8g for the HV battery hybrids as great cars only in the hands of knoledgable owners

Hybrids are great for gas guzzlers, but why would they make the Yaris a hybrid, for an extra 5-10mpg better... it's a waste. Tons of people were pissed when the Yaris came out for half the price of the Prius (so most of the sales and techs say at my job) and got almost the same amount of gas mileage.

I think that's why they didn't give us the diesel option.

they'd make the Yaris a hybrid because the mileage would be even better than the prius. And more importantly, they would price it around $10,000 less than the prius.

how would the mileage be better? The prius has the same engine as the yaris, yes the yaris is lighter, but not with another battery in it. There is just a certain point where smaller and cheaper is not better, but just crap. If you really need better gas mileage go buy a 250cc bike or a ruckus. even better, buy a go-kart and fab some panels over a frame and add some plexiglass.

![]() Not to mention the fact that the parts to make hybrid cars are shipped from around the globe to very few hybrid car factories, adding to the emissions problem. If you really want to be "green", stop buying more cars and take good care of the one you have, which happens to be one of the most fuel efficient cars ever made.

![]() With the recent oil tragety and all the blame on BP and the evils of oil corporations... when you really think of it, we are the only ones to blame! Our dependency on oil is the problem, yet we say "green". What a hypocrisy! We take the easy way... the convenient way... the personal vehicle way. Buy, buy, and buy more! Take the "green" way... Demand public transporatation and most of all use it... ![]() Just an observation... Cheers!

IMO if everyone owned a car that got 25mpg city and 30-35 mpgh we would be fine. It's these people who drive trucks and SUV's who go offroading once a year or they want to look cool. I think they should tax people based on where they live for the vehicle they are driving. like if you live in a city, you pay tax on a truck or suv or anything under a certian gas mileage.
