Pulled from the previous thread on this subject:
From the top: Austin A35 - the basis for the Frog-eye Sprite. Flying bubble. Ford Anglia - slow was an understatement. Peugeot 304 - great car, but rusted fast Renault 4 - take the worst of the Anglia, and mix it with A35. 'Nuff said. Vauxhall Viva wagon. Styled like a Yank Tank without all the space inside. Austin Allegro wagon - never ran right, never ran straight. Fiat 126 - I loved that car, all 600cc of it! Cornered like a roller-skate, flat and fast. Moved to the States in 84: 72 Karmann Ghia - the most fun you can have in a rust-bucket. 69 Mustang. Don't EVER get the straight 6..... Peugeot 505 wagon. Good kid-hauler, boat-dragger, tree-puller. Toyota van, the wedge-front engine-under-the-driver's-butt version. 2 A/C units, 2 sun-roofs. Fun. Colt Vista. Why? Good question. Honda Civic "Sawn-off" hatch. The Yaris of its day, for all the same reasons.. Plymouth K-car wagon. Don't ask - it was free. VW Fox. Another under-powered car that was fun in the corners. Honda Accord wagon. Would have been better with the 5-speed instead of automatic. Ford Ranger. Wife's truck - mistake (the truck, not the wife). VW Passat wagon, 2L turbo. Wife's current ride. Better Yaris LB - my current ride - perfect! |

Gee, Sail Design, what was the problem with the 6cyl Mustangs? My 67 and 80 Mustangs were both inlines, and ran VERY reliably, and were fairly easy to tweak for more horsepower. The 80 got a ported head (not an easy job), and a oversize exhaust system, resulting in lots of power and great fuel mileage. Met its end when rear-ended by a big Dodge pigup towing a 5th-wheel. The 86, however, was a 4; yyaaawnnn...

Wow... Maybe I was just lucky. Steering on mine was just fine. True enough, wheelspin was never a problem, very helpful in winter, yet my 80 went REALLY well on our mountain roads. I do know that the right shocks changed its grip considerably.

![]() Part of me still thinks that the 23-y old CRX HF I traded in for the Yaris (may she rest in peace ;) had a little bit more to give (I bought her used but I owned her for a long time. It was *the *perfect* car* for me) Now if you had us make a list of the cars we drove on a regular basis, whether we owned them or not ... including your parents, boyfriends, etc. then the list would be a bit longer ![]() hehehe ![]()

Agreed, SailDesign, I tend to buy used, cheap, and drive into the ground. Longest time to own a car was 17 years, my 65 Minor ragtop. Had to sell it to finance real estate. First NEW car was the Yaris, I was 69 at the time, likely my last new car.
