Very nice - I'd love to do some sound deadening work at some point. It would be interesting to see someone do a before and after sound level test. I wonder what fixes have the most payoff.

Deathegg - The Herculiner cures firm but flexible. It is urethane and is probably about half the durometer of roller blade wheels.
Josh044 - On Sunday night I was watching Wheeler-Dealers and they bought an old pickup to resell. The thing was loud as could be, so they bought a sound insulation kit for it. Before and after they did a sound level test and I sat there watching it going - Dang, I should have done that. I even have a good sound meter app for the iPhone.

Looks like $67 well spent. Did you have to pressure wash the dirt out before applying or just slapped it on?
Also curious about how much sound it helped block out. Damn your iPhone and that hindsight of yours! heehee. |

I pressure washed it with Simple Green (and vacuumed all of the pebbles out of the leading edge of the rear wheel wells) before painting it.

I've been wanting to get rid of some of that road noise that tends to plague the Yaris, but I don't want to add a ton of weight to the car with sound deadening.
I think this might be my solution. You think if I just do the wheel wells then it will make a difference? I probably won't be able to get to the underside of the car due to my lack of a lift. |

not to hijack the thread, but all I can say is that when I went and did my LSRs I noticed a difference with certain things removed.
Scott, great idea. I might have to do it myself when I have my body work done.

Holy crap, Penny. That's looks like a few hundred bucks in sound deadening. I've done truck bed liner on the spare tire floor but that's it. I really want to Dynamat the interior like that but time is a factor. I generally don't have enough days off lined up to tear stuff apart and lay it all down and put it back together.

Would this stuff be the same?
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en Dupli-Color Bed Armor Truck Bed Liner if you can't see the link. Also, did you have to sand the paint in the wheel well or did you just clean + paint? |

I didn't sand, but rather just cleaned very well using simple green and painted.

That undercoating looks do-able even for me. The road noise on grainy pavement is tiresome alright. When you get the stuff on you how do you get it off?

Ideally you don't get it on you. Acetone works somewhat for getting it off skin. If you don't slather it on too thick it won't drip.
