I would recommend you stay with synthetic for future oil changes. If will help reduce further wear on this already heavily used engine.

TARKUS you think that would help? It does have a lot of miles on it lol everyone says that is k to go from conventional to synthetic as my understanding synthetic does help lubricate the engine better my only concern is that it didn't burn oil before until I decided to switch to synthetic last oil change

IMO stick with conventional or you're just burning money. In a high mileage vehicle like yours that doesn't see freezing temps there is no benefit. Dyno oil lubricates just as well as conventional in your climate.

I do run syn oil in my Echo that has 380k km on it but that is only in the few crazy cold months during the winter since it doesn't start as smoothly as it once used to. Once the temp rise I go back to conventional. FWIW I do notice slightly more oil loss with the syn oil, and the weight is always 5w30.

It burns about 1L every 1000-1500 km so I don't bother doing oil changes anymore, just the filter.

You may find adding an additive like syn lube or similar helps with the oil burning. It makes a big difference in my Echo, I suppose you could also just run a heavier weight oil as well.

I just find it hard to believe that this amount of oil burning just happened all of a sudden. This point to you needing to check the PCV, that said it could just be a beaten on enigne with failing rings.

In only went down a few lines like 3 or so a little down from the full mark I have after 1800 miles with the synthetic also I don't know whether the previous owner kept up with the oil changes that well when I bought it I did a whole tune up on it I'm just going to stick to conventional as you mentioned and just going to keep an eye on the oil every month or so I had my mechanic check the pcv valve and it was good I seen this cars last many miles I also got my serpentine belt done that bastard was full of cracks :/

This stuff slowed my Land cruiser from burning oil.

Synthetic still reduces friction wear, regardless of the weather. However, I take your point that if the car is just burning up the oil, you might as well use the cheaper stuff. Like you. I also think it's odd that the car just suddenly started burning oil, and I think that should be looked into.

That's exactly what I would recommend, once the underlying issue has been figured out.

Thank you TARKUS I will use that high Milage oil on my next oil change for now I'll just keep an eye on my oil level since I put conventional back in tho when I changed from the synthetic I noticed that it was really dirty with only 1800 miles on the oil is that normal? Maybe it was all the crap build up on the engine I'm not mechanically inclined but I don't see any leaks underneath or around the motor either

I'm not familiar with the European Toyota engines but as far as I know the 1nz is not an oil burner until the rings eventually wear out.

I was told the 2.4 litre Camry would use some oil. Never happened on my wife's one. Maybe only using synthetic oil helps in some way.

yes, synthetic oil should prevent or slow ring deposits.

not really, it burns much less gasoline compared to other oil burning toyota cars (i personally had an oil burning corolla, LOL).

now, 3rd gen prius is speced for 0W20 synthetic oil. i suspect some places cheated and used dino instead. mine doesn't burn oil.
