Your Vitz appears to have a CVT rather than a 4-speed auto. I read at some Japanese sites that 'S' stood for 'Sport' and it will keep the engine RPM higher, and 'B' stood for 'engine Braking' - equivalent to low gear.

OK, S is not sport.
Wikipedia says S is the same as '2'.

So now what is B?

B is probably the lowest gear, which would be "1".

B - braking (1st)
S - steep (2nd)

???

Here's an easy way to work it out (if you have a tach). Rev to 2500 rpm and look at the speedo for each, write it down (when you're stopped obviously ) and let us know. From that we can probably work out what gear it is limiting to.

yup, or if he has a tach, put in "B" and see where it redlines. basically another way of doing what edd said.

oh, that's going to be hard then...ummm, you can try to leave it in "B" and press the gas pedal 1/4 or 1/2 way down and see if your speed becomes constant, then switch to "S" with your pedal at the same spot (don't take your foot off, keep it where it is on the pedal throughout the entire time) and see if your speed goes up. if it does then maybe "S" is second gear and "B" is first. i'm not sure about this tho.

you should also try to find a more credible site. anyone can put up anything on wikipedia. i can go there and say that "S" is 1...but it sounds right. so "B" is 1, and "S" is 2.

Ok, by looking at your location you are in California. The gateway to the US from Asian countries. You're telling us that there isn't ANY way you can find a local Japanese Car Club, BookStore,Grocery Store or Library where someone can translate this for you? How about a Translation WebSite? Punch it in and you should get fairly close to what you want. Gotta do some legwork on this one. It's not gonna fall out of the sky.

Any colleges around? You may have to drive a few miles if for some reason they aren't ACROSS the street. Who knows, by the time you get there you might of already figured out how to drive this car. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

This might of been the homework BEFORE the test?

Good Luck

Chuck

you mean a hunt for a japanese.
I wish i had time, but unfortunately these days I have a tight schedule. And I can't use a translator because my windows doesn't support Japanese.

Hunt? Hmmmm..Probably a better word than that but yes, that is what you may have to do. Crack open the yellow pages, white pages, local newspapers.

It's there if you want it. I'm sure you did a bit of work to get the car here. I'd bet it is less work to get this worked out.

Keep trying...
