A new car should be timed out, by Toyota, and delivered to my driveway. I should be able to leave my old car on the sidewalk and have Toyota pick it up.

But then complain about how it lacks a tach, even though I've test driven one before I bought it.

i change my own oil, but some people fail to add in the time it takes to purchase your oil and filters(i'm cheap and usually drive around to a couple places for the best deal) and taking your oil somewhere to have it properly disposed of. you don't have to do this everytime, obviously, but just saying that it's not fair to compare a quick change place to doing it yourself without adding in this 'time' factor. anyways, i usually do save money because i like to use synthetic, nice filters, and always look for the best deals.

Totally true. You're just the other side of the Jiffy Lube idea. Your way works just as well for you, as it does for people who don't have time and pay for convenience. Or in my case, lazyness.

Man. A legit point on the other side of the spectrum. Why can't forum debates be like this?

Our new Mazda was delivered 45 miles to our house and they drove our trade away.

and that is what keeps me from trying to change my own oil. Where do I recycle it? I assume an oil change pan can be had at any oil parts store. I'm tempted to try and do it, but this is me, and I would prolly mess it up somehow.

But they should constantly do that when oil change time is approaching. For free, no less. And the car swap should be free too.

My Toyota dealer charges $19.95 for their oil changes. That is where I go, it is $22.xx after taxes :) I love it.

I say instead of bickering back and forth, next time I change my oil, I'll switch from an oil pan to a measuring cup after 5 minutes. I bet there will be more than half an ounce after 25 more minutes. I also have a feeling if you did a UOA of the first 5 minutes and one from the last 25, the last 25 would be considerably dirtier. I've seen some pretty dirty chunks fall out after 5 minutes.

Like I said, I'm not arguing Jiffy Lube any more. Its your car. Just don't read all the horror stories about wrong fluids and such. I'll continue getting a cheaper, and better(however marginally it may be) oil change.

pour it in a jug from the last oil change and take it down to kragen

Maybe you should change your oil more often then... so instead of waiting 30 min, wait 15 and change it twice as often... Win, win.

No...you still don't get it. It's not time wasted because while it's draining you are doing something else like....cutting the grass, surfing internet porn, watching football, eating pizza, trimming the hedges. The list goes on. Any car guy you meet let's his oil drain as long as possible.

I don't think theres a point to keep debating. Apparently the Yaris is Rocket Science, and thus should be treated as such.

Debate should end like what toad said. He doesn't agree with us. He does it his way anyways. But he doesn't sit there and bash us personally. He sees OUR way, and we see HIS way. And we live on.

We must argue to understand, not to impose our own ideas onto others. Then wed be communist.
