Its a nice little story but thats all it is.

The car always keeps it above 800RPM or so. If you go over it, the fuel will be cut off. Another proof of that is that if you do so, the fuel consumption meter goes to 0.0

It just defaults to idle.

Which...suprise suprise...just happens to be the situation when you take your foot off the gas pedal.
