Because the car is hot and it is great on mileage. I can afford the payments is also a big plus.

Cause Honda pissed me off when they dropped the cheapo double wishbone civic and the Yaris looks nicer then the Fit and is just as sporty.

I just fell in love with the looks of the little bastard! Then I drove one and realized that it was more than just your average compact- The legroom, headroom, quickness, handling, and just the fact that it does not look like every other car on the road. I have not found anything in its class that i would trade for now.

Boom! That's it. I'm on page 1, but this one hit the nail on the head for me.

I can afford it = $13,600 "out the door" (all taxes & all the other crap added-in) (cash deal )

Gas mileage = 36mpg average

Reliability = Toyota

The rest (kinda cute, isn't it?) is just icing on the cake. It was purchased to get me to work @ 76 miles round trip. Man, does that ever add-up (almost 20,000 miles per year alone)! It was to be a disposable car. I was gonna wear it out 'n' throw it away like a paper towel, then buy a new one, and so on... Since then, I changed jobs. My new job is now a mere 10 miles round trip, so my wife is driving it to take her to work (44 miles round trip). Looks like I'm not gonna wear it out so fast. hehe We use it all the time though, not just for going to work, it's a great little around-town ride! I just hate how the SUV's and pickups act, like I'm supposed to move out of their way, even when there's a car right in front of me which is why we're not moving any faster. Dumb jerks - but, that's another thread, i guess.

We had been looking at a couple new smaller trucks, new mustang or used 350Z as well as several other cars worth a lot more then the Yaris.
My last car before my Yaris was a MINT, 99 Chevy Xtreme S-10 4.3L that I paid close to $30,000. But with all the city driving and long distance traveling we do we wanted something smaller and better on fuel (xtreme =16=18mpg in town) Our truck was costing us $60-$75 a week in fuel. So we were looking at a newer or new car in the $30-$35,000 price range and something that gets 25mpg or better if possible.
After about 6 months of test driving everything out there we saw our first Yaris sitting at a stop light. My wife commented on how cute it looked and that we should test drive one. My first impression was no way... I doubt it can even get out of its own way. "won't pull the skin off gravy"
But a week or so later she talked me into it.
I gotta admit, before the Yaris i would never have though about an econo box, but this thing was fun to drive and had great mileage and loads of space (5 door RS)

That's when we got to thinking.... Why work our butts off and live paycheck to paycheck just to drive a flashy car and pay crazy insurance rates when we could drive an car like the Yaris and have a bit of playin' around $$$.
We crunched some numbers and quickly realized for what we would have spent on a car like the mustang or used 350Z we could buy 2 econoboxes and still have $$$ left over.

So we started test driving every econobox and small cor out there and then quickly came back to the best out of all of them....and bought the Yaris
It was the best decision we ever made.
With the $$$ we saved over the summer/fall I bought a new 9.9 outboard engine for my boat.
New recliner couch/sofa
I bought the wife a motorcycle (Kawasaki ZZR)
All new Icon leathers, helmet, boots (the works)
And I'm buyin another motorcycle in the next couple months (Suzuki GSX750F) as well as new gear. And best of all....I don't need to trade in my VT600

Instead of $60-$70 a week in fuel for the truck.. I spend $60 a month...and the insurance on the Yaris is $900 cheaper then the truck.
I miss my truck sometimes, afterall it was my dream truck, But with the $$$ I save every month if I really wanted to I could buy another one in a couple years.

Well, I had an old Ford Festiva for my daily econo drive, that I didn't trust much after 100 thou. miles, and didn't drive much. But my SUV only gets 17 mpg. The Yaris LB looked like the perfect replacement, but when I checked the area dealer, they didn't have one yet. He called me a couple of days later with an S Sedan with power package, spoiler and 5-speed that he thought I should see, and it was love at first sight/drive. I've gotten 37-41 mpg over the 11,000 miles we've been together so far, and I still grin a little when I see her in the parking lot after a long day at work. The SUV only pulls the boat now, and the Yaris is a joy for a daily drive. I agree that the standard sedan looks kind of not so hot, but the S with the spoiler, she's pretty sweet for me.

#3 The color. It's bright, young, vibrant, and matches me.
#4 The price. One of the lowest priced cars on the road.
#5 The mileage. 40 mpg, need I say more?
#6 The stares and questions. "What IS that, anyway?"
#7 The handling. It's better than a go-kart or MINI Cooper.
#8 The storage compartments. Where can I hide my stuff today?!
#9 The body length. I can park in a spot that your car can't :) Sucker!
#10 Cause it's a Yaris. And it's the greatest car ever! 'Nuff said.

You pretty much listed everything there is. And I agree on almost all points except 3, 7 and 10.

#3 - I didn't get to pick the color. They only had two liftbacks with manual transmission and power package - meteorite metallic and black metallic. Black one was being sold when I showed up at the dealeship.

#7 - I agree that Yaris handles very good. But Mini is a little devil when it comes to handling. And its wheels aren't wider either! Its body is shorter than Yaris' by an inch or so.
So unless you put wider tires on Yaris and replace suspension, it's no match for Mini handling wise.

#10 - Time will tell.

And I'd like to add an 11th point.

#11 - My primary motivation for getting a Yaris LB was my obsession with little cars. I just don't see myself driving anything bigger anymore.

He's the resident redneck... he didn't pay anything for it. He traded in 10 used F150's, none with wheels.

I went from having a company car to having to pay for my own gas, insurance, tolls etc. My Jeep gets 13mpg highway, less in traffic. I now get reimbursed the federal rate (currently 48.5 cents per mile) to use my own vehicle. The Yaris pays for itself easily via my job and I keep the Jeep for fun.

Nah, I paid dealer price. It helps when you work for them.

I did trade in a Ford truck, though, Mr. Smarty Pants.

I think the check I wrote ended up being $75X.XX. Ha ha!

Seriously, I bought it because I drive 100 miles round trip to work everyday, and the Tundra (at the time) had the worst gas mileage of all the full size pickups, except for the Titan, which is junk. Going from 18 to 35 mpg is pretty cool. Now I have much more redneck money each month to pour into guns, NASCAR collectibles, and my local Republican party.

As a first car it was:
1. cheap (bought it used)
2. its class safetiest (Euro NCAP)
3. and its economic (5.8 liters / 100 km) (combined) (MultiMode)

That´s why i bought yaris
