yea uncle is right, and there is a spot for it anyway, its clipped onto the front dash kit to the right of the steering wheel directly beside your driver glove compartment, it pops right out lol and i was thinking about this mod for sure, but i think ill start off my next set of modding with making the car lighter/performance wize

Seems like adding a start button would be easy. On my gf's 07 LB, if you flick they key to start (and release right away), the engine will continue to crank itself until it starts. Seems like this would help give a polished effect.

Putting in a simple start button is easy enough, you just need to splice into the ignition wires so that when you press the button, it closes the same circuit that turning the key all the way would do.

But, this still requires you to insert the key and turn it to the ON position.

I am researching into commercially available RFID stuff in order to make a totally keyless solution. But, the car's built in immobilizer system might make this pretty much impossible, as it uses its own transponder system to identify the key that is physically in the ignition. No key, no way to start the engine, which sorta defeats the purpose!

Which leads me to the question, do all of Yarii in the US/Canada have the immobilizer as standard?

Yup, that's the crank hold system, pretty smart idea... Took me a while to get used to it, but now whenever I drive a different car that doesn't have this function, I let go of the key too early!

Nah the most embarassing thing was when I first got the car at the dealership, I didn't know about having to press the clutch all the way, so I could not start the car, ran back in the dealer in a panic, oh no, my new car's broken already!

no it is not standard... as a matter a fact, most Yarii here do not have immobilizers (grey keys).... we have the regular OLD thin rubber black key

so if you come up with a keyless start option, it would be very marketable in the U.S.

question... would it be the same setup as the prius 1 touch for acc 2 for start then a 3rd for off?

Search on the European versions! Maybe they sell the whole kit! My yaris TS has the keyless ignition system, and it doesnt require any key! Look in Europe! We have it, the question is if the sell the whole kit system!

Yes, it is available here too on top of the line models, I have asked the Toyota dealership about it, and they say they cannot retrofit them on normal cars. There is probably a way, but the expense of getting the OEM system would jyst not be worth it!

I'm not sure if it's something that could be made just plug and play, if I get it done it'll probably be available as a DIY and parts list...

I'm sure it's possible to control it all through a single button, OEM-style. But I really don't think my electronics skills are good enough to set up that kind of circuit. The way I'm planning it is a toggle switch (like those military style ones with the red cover for an extra dramatic look) to turn on the electrical system, then a nice big round button (look up Bulgin vandal switches, those are the bomb) for the ignition. And the whole thing only being active when a specific RFID tag is within range of a sensor...

I got a big book on RFID projects, lots of reading to do, lots of interesting ideas

Holy thread dig! Since the last time you guys talked about this...16 months ago, has anyone else had success with the push button start option? Particularly without needing a key in the ignition?

I am especially interested in this http://www.trdparts.jp/parts_push_start-sw.html

Anyone know where to purchase one in the US? Thanks

It's a pretty straight forward item, not much to do even if you were to do it yourself as a DIY. Looks complete though it doe sfail to mention if it will work with manual trans.
