Here's an alternative way of doing this:
http://www.soffseal.com/SearchByPart.asp

Part #: E006A

I ordered 4ft. of the stuff, but ended up having to shorten it.

This weatherstrip comes pre-attached with 3M weather-proof double sided tape:

Can't really see it from the outside / when the hood is closed since I have the hood deflector on there now. These are the best pics. I could take of it while the hood is closed:

It makes a nice, tight seal for the front of the hood. Before, I could just lift the hood and drop it to close it. Now, I have to actually push the hood closed.

I purchased 4ft. of this weatherstrip. Didn't measure the final length after cutting because most of it was already stuck on and I didn't want to remove it to straighten it out and take a measurement.

Hmmmm? How about sticking it to the Hood? I think most cars have it on the Hood.

I ordred the same thing from softseal. Only 6 bucks shipped. Cant beat that. cant wait to install. Maybe will cut down on wind drag and improve my gas milage by .5 percent.

sticking it on the hood is probably safer for the paint. Plastic don't rust, whereas the hood would rust if the paint is gone...

I don't understand why it would be better to stick the weatherstrip in the underside of the hood...

Most cars which have this seal from factory have it clipped into the underside of the hood. Also, I don't think the factory paint would rub off that easily. If it does then you've got serious issues, and should take the car back to the dealer.

Well, try it, you will see. My echo had the rubber underside of the hood, and when closed, it sits on the METAL raidator mount... let's say it was pretty nasty afterwards.

Also, my yaris has 2 small rubber strips on each side of the hood just above the headlights. With time, it did get the bumper pretty scratched.

Hmmm, that's strange. Because our Corolla and Camry here in Australia have this rubber strip on the underside of the bonnet. Though I don't think it's for sealing the hood, but it seems to just sit between the car chassis frame and the bonnet, to give a bit of cushioning?

Seems like the seal / weatherstrip being on the underside of the hood would eventually lead to the seal rubbing off its color on the part of the fender it smashes onto whenever the hood is closed...
