If it held up that would free your money for other perhaps more interesting pursuits. 35 mpg doesnt get old. Unless there are other cars getting 50 mpg... |

Hey, if you're only getting 35 mpg you're doing something wrong, LOL! I'm consistently getting 42-43 and I don't even have 1500 miles on my car yet!

Besides the fact that 35mpg is still a hell of a lot better than most of the other cars out there. While 40+ would be better, can't really complain about 35 when others are barely making 30.

We had a Pinto in the family for 15 years, and you know it was the most reliable car of the lot ... of course it didn't blow up or catch on fire once. But unibody frames don't rust very well ... That said, who cares ... I ride a motorcycle most of the time anyway. I'm pretty sure I'd rather be rearended in a pinto than on that sportster. But it's just crazy, I guess I like to live life that way ... The Yaris is fine, and I'll keep it around until it makes economic sense to replace. |

Had my black 3dr Yaris RS since new in late 2005, first RS in the area actually. Had no problems with it, done 175000km on the highway. However, Ive started looking around to for change. Lost all confidence in Toyota and am seriously looking at 2010 Golf TDi as the replacement.
Ive REALLY enjoyed the Yaris experience and if Toyota ever sold it to another manufacturer I might return one day. |

So I guess the media's recent Toyota attack has worked on you then? Also, VW reliability does not equal Toyota reliability, from what I've heard... |

Not a chance. In fact, I'm very sad that I'll have to leave my old corolla behind soon. If the original owner hadn't let the rust get so bad I'd be willing to invest a lot more more to keep it going as long as possible. Hope to love my next car just as much. (and not let it start rusting!)

I AM KEEPING THIS THING FOR EVER... WIFEY: YOU ARE NOT GONNA TAKE THIS AWAY FROM ME!
She wanted me to buy a bigger "manly" car/suv, but I have to drive this thing daily and loved the light car feel of it. Plus the low maintenance and cheap spare parts. I have promised her that end of this year I will get me a bigger car, but lol there is nothing I cannot talk her into! She already likes it more now.

Well, I will break even at 140,000 miles. The gas savings from going to 40 MPG from 18 MPG means the car paid for it's self and anything over 140,000 miles is money in the bank. My truck was a 1995 and had 264,000 miles when I sold it. I expect the same life out of the Yaris.

I plan on taking my Yaris into retirement with me, so another 30 years or so. It should be just about broken in by then. :)

Figuring in the cost of my yaris, minus the price I got for the mazda before I went to japan, and gas at $3 a gallon, and my life long avg for MPG's on the yaris being 40mpg.... it'd take me 574,000 miles to break even. That doesn't consider maintenance costs tho... and the Yaris has the mazda beat by a long shot there... so i'd guess it'd be more like 300,000 miles. Before my mazda I owned a 86 Jeep Cherokee.... thing got 15-18mpg. I guess the yaris has saved me more money too... if I was still driving the mazda... its possible I might have chosen to fly once or twice more on trips.... which would've bumped up travel costs to home from $60 up to $200. It really is hard to justify flying home when the trip is either 8hrs by car, or 2hrs by car+1hr by plane (plus the waiting around time) and three times the cost.... or four times the cost & 1.5hrs by plane. |

Until my income level raises up a grade and get a family. If money permits, I'd rather have a car with leather seats, and who knows hydrogen fuel cells? Fitting a family into a LB doesn't sound like fun. But for a single person who hasn't even gone to med school yet, can't beat a Yaris!
