Yeah, green line. I kinda disregarded anything past 4k as I'm rarely ever past 4k unless merging on the freeway. lol. Any bump in torque below 3.5k is a plus, but I do see that it does lose some torque around 2.1k.

I posted the dyno runs warts and all and let the chips fall where they may so that everyone here can see for themselves and decide for themselves because its dishonest to make claims without providing any proof of them. Last edited by tooter; 08-26-2013 at 05:02 PM. |

I'm sure with the Tooter, SRI, 1ZZ TB, a header, and a 2" cat-back exhaust, it'll have a nice low end torque increase over stock |

Tooter's next manifold adventure is already off the ground.
By making the runners 12% longer, the intake manifold spacer lowered the torque peak by 2,500 rpm down to just 2,900 rpm. The first production run begins as soon as we find a good source of nylon blocks. Gonna be occupied for a while with this project, but when things slow down, I might try having one of these made for the Yaris, just to see how it works. This netted 2hp and 2 torque, a 1.5% gain. Easy mod to install, not too bad.
1.5% on a Yaris would be about 1-1.3 hp I think if it were proportional?

You missed the point, Garm...
It doesn't make gains. It moves the torque curve lower in rpms. The stock Tacoma 2.7 engine's torque peaks at 3,800 rpm. With an LCE long tube header and this intake manifold spacer, the torque peak is reached at just 2,900 rpm... without reducing the peak value. The speed limiter cut the engine off on those 4th gear runs, but it didn't matter as it was just to get the low end torque readings. Last edited by tooter; 09-05-2013 at 02:32 AM. |

Torque feels different from horsepower. Horsepower is the ability to gain rpms quickly, while torque is the ability to hold the same rpms while under a heavy load. Like the difference between acceleration and pull. The truck pulls strongly at very low rpms. I use my truck as a fully loaded daily driver work vehicle, and am frequently in stop and go traffic. With a stick there's a lot of first gear clutching. On a level roadway I can slip the clutch from a standing start with no throttle and the truck moves smoothly with no bucking or dying out. I tested to see how low, and the breaking point of dying is if the rpms drop lower than 400-500 rpm which is below the idle speed. It runs like a tractor. |

Ok. From the beginning...
The first dyno run is with the header alone which lowered the peak torque from 3,800 rpms down to 3,150 rpms. The second dyno run is with the addition of the spacer as the only change. It lowered the peak torque from 3,150 rpm down to 2,900 rpm. |

You got it, Garm.
And besides lowering the rpms of the absolute peak by 250... below that peak the tooter's torque curve is also fatter than the stock torque curve at other engine speeds, and it did it without giving up anything at the top end. |

The first tooter II.VII production model has been machined...
Here's a vid of a dyno run... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6ofUy8_-6Q It's an extremely low rpm 4th gear pull starting to record at only 1,400rpm and up to redline at 5600rpm. Here's how the truck sounds on the road in 2nd and 3rd gear, from 25mph to 70mph. All that sound you're hearing is coming just from the intake alone, as it's running the super quiet factory stock muffler. Had to suddenly cut the run short as I was headed into a canyon curve. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFTl75q49e4 Last edited by tooter; 10-06-2013 at 02:11 AM. |

Finished the next tooter and put it on ebay.
Did a light polish job on the runners on this one... |
