iirc, FAS = forced auto stop. Essentially turning off the engine (put the ignition back on "ON" to make sure you still have the ability to turn and brake). It's a little more advanced. If the stop light has turned red way ahead of you, you can use FAS so you're not slowing down as much as you would with DFCO. You can come to a stop and still have the engine off, thus not wasting gas by idling. NOTE: you will only have the ability to have two or three good pumps on the brakes, so use it wisely. If you came to a stop, start the engine again, if not, bump start the engine in 5th. You can also use FAS if you're going down a hill to either keep momentum or gain some speed. FAS uses no gas at all vs the very, very minute amount of gas that DFCO uses.

Thanks. I now know that FAS is definitely not for me! Interesting, though.

On the freeway, my instant mpg ranges from 40-60mpg simply because I keep my throttle at 24% and let the road determine my speed. I'll only speed up if my speed dips down to 55mph and let off the gas once I get to 75-80mph. My average speed in my usual Sac to Bay Area commute (about 65-70 miles) is 65-70 mph, usually averaging 45-50 mpg. |

That's with an intake, wrong size exhaust piping (2.25"), heavy rims/tires, a sub in the trunk along with a couple basic socket wrench sets, a breaker bar, a torque bar, a pair of shoes, quick detail spray, window cleaner spray, and some microfiber towels. LOL, so I do have a bunch of crap in my trunk, and my exhaust piping pushed my torque curve to the top end where I rarely ever drive. I play my music moderately loud too, so that puts a strain on the electrical system, which possibly uses up more gas (since my alternator is working harder, I'm assuming).

I just drive with a very light foot and use cruise a lot. If I'm coming up on a moderate uphill, I'll take it out of cruise, however. I coast up to stop signs, intersections, etc. I haven't done much highway driving, though. My work schedule will soon require me to drive quite a bit more on the freeway: I suspect my mileage will go down, then.

I could get better mileage if I didnt have to slow to a crawl to pass over bumps and train tracks lol.

Brian told me it was like 7-8 seconds. No clue. I only turn off my engine if I know I'll be at a light for at least a minute. LOL

Thanks. I'll be on the freeway for about 125 miles at a time. The speed limit is 70mph, but I'm not sure yet if I plan to go slower than that. I'll have to see what my mpgs look like, I suppose.

That's a long time being on the freeway. Do you have a Scan Gauge II by chance? |
