Todays pully install of the water pump and alternator went great except that when I hooked the battery + back up I heard a pop......car started right up but no tach,no brakelights,no dash lights on the heater controls,no blinkers but flashers worked,no power steering, and car was not charging.....grrrrrr
So the hunt was on to find what popped.....checked everything and it was good.....don't know why I didn't check the fused link on the battery terminal + where the alternator fuse is first.....that was the culprit. Of course it is a 2 day wait for a new one from Toyota so car is sitting at my buddies DOA...lol I don't know why it popped to be honest short of there was some corrosion on the bolt that hooked it to the aftermarket terminal or it may of been already partially going out with all the amp and lights and such adding drain to the system. Car starts but that is about it,hoping that is all that blew for me as it is only a $16 part,we tested all the fuses on the car and they were good, relays seem good,no burnt wires.....thank goodness. I will get pictures of pullies installed once car is going again on Thursday....wish me luck. |

In answer to the question how to avoid this problem....honestly I think it is just sheer bad luck.I did find that the ground strap wire from the negative terminal to the tranny case was very corroded, could of added to the problem.
Also I think a major part is the aftermarket battery terminal just sucks and may of not had a great connection, also found corrosion in it as well. Tomorrow the fusable link thing that is attached to the terminal should be at dealership and hoping that is all that popped. We were able to test all functions of the car using this tool that hooks to the battery and supplies power to anything to see if it will work and so far everything worked, which is good because the fuse is only $16.50,hoping it is all that blew,I have bad luck at times....but it is a car and cars tend to Gremlin..... I will load the pictures of the pullies from my phone and post them up here in a bit, just got home from work.....4 mile walk in the dark and rain....this old man needs a beer...lol |

Here is pictures of the pullies,I am waiting to do the crank pully for when Garm gets his in stock.....
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All in all the install took less than an hour, used an impact gun to pull the alternator pully, the waterpump pully you just use a screwdriver or in my case a socket extension and stick it in the pully holes and undo the 3 bolts. To pull the alternator bolt holding it to the motor you have to undo the fastner screw for the AC line and move it slightly out of the way to get bolt out to pull alternator.Used 22mm impact socket and impact gun to pull pully,it once the nut is off just pulls off with your hand,no puller needed. LIke I said I think just sheer dumb luck I blew the fuse, going to pull the aftermarket terminal and put stock on back on and get a ring for the 0/1 amp wire and mount it to the stock terminal.Pully install on a scale of 1-10 I would say is a 3 tops, very easy to do as long as you have a buddy with an impact gun.Another option would be a 22mm offset box wrench and then hold the shaft with think it was 12mm and it also will come right off. |

Got a package in the mail today......decided to try something totally differant so I got a set of Canards......they are somewhat universal, seem to be either fiberglass or plastic, very clean, strong, well made to be honest,I was not sure but I figured I would takea chance since I had some spare cash that came around from aside job I did......

Wow, nice work of your car, I just got a yaris about 2 weeks ago, I just want to do some mod with it, but don't know what to do? I notice you live in UW, I also live in Seattle, do you mind to meet up so I can check out your car? I love to see your car in person. Thank you

Thanks man.....it has been a long haul to get it this far.....it is getting weird at work and we are facing layoffs soon so I am not sure if I am getting bagged in the spring or not....sucks.....guess I will save the money and wait it out and see what happens....
But here are the pictures of the canards installed,I tried them high and low and they looked and fit best low....I know they are kinda over the top but they are mounted now so I am stuck with them...lol ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Car is also back up and running,it was the fusable link for the alternator that popped, the pullies could be giving a bit more smoothness to the acceleration but no real power gains felt, think the crank pully will make most differance once Garm gets them produced. |

I think those are great! Adds a great aggressive look to it but not over the top, very clean. I was plannin on getting four of the more straight edged ones and then putting them two almost on top of each other on each side like you did and then getting one that covers the whole bottom lip. but thats not until after I put my new body kit on in the next two-ish months!

I totally agree....they are low.....I should of taken pic of them up on the bumper....if the lip was not on they would of been like low point at the fogs and looked really much better, the lip kinda is in the way of pulling it off without an odd angle....
Just so everyone knows,I like honest opinions....good or bad..... I think the pair like the APR would work great on the bumper, they are shorter than these, but I got these so cheap I had to try......I will get car washed up and take some full body pics and then you can see they are indeed low,but are not too bad....lol |
