Weird rattle coming from teh egg.
My 240 used to make this weird rattle coming from the engine when it was on idle. Probably because the engine was about to die out from all the abuse it was givin.
So now my Egg is making that wierd rattling sound now. And its not when its on idle. I notice it only makes the sounds when I give it some gas about 40%. Normaly when I tap it at 15-20% is wont make the sound. but if I give it a lil bit more to 40% of gas it start to make the rattling sound. Its very silent an dyou can bearly hear it. I'm thinking it could be the transmission. What do you guys think? I'm a have to take it to the dealer and let them know. The thing that sucks thought is that im very busy and never have time to take it. I think I might of messed up the transmission during brake in... hmmm

wasup bro.
well, i had a similar sound before , it could be mabe the exhaust knocking on the body . i had a strange sound like that comming from my engine bay , it was the VSV switch, its a small electronic switch with 2 vacume pipes and a electronic point connecting to the top of it , on the left o the airbox.once it was replaced , sound was alot less and back to normal, worth a check. |

all these little engine tic and rattle away once you get some miles on them and they are worn in completely....
A lot of it is the valve train, if you have an automatic the auto trans will tic/rattle as well. I've heard a few that rattle like diesels but still go another 300,000km

I think its just to be expected you'll hear a rattle or 2 here and there.
My car stays full of shyte, so there are always lots of random rattles goin on. |

I know exactly the rattle you speak of. Same exact rattle here, under the same conditions you mentioned.
What i found was, when doing my Meagn Header install, the waffle looking metal heat shield that goes inside the hump, where there exhaust piping is run, its only attached at a few points... that entire piece needs a few self tapping screws run thru it.. it vibrates/rattles at the very edges, as its only locked down in the center. Next time you're under your car, or at the dealer, have them reinforce the heat shield. |

Dont forget this car is a tight car,I mean alot of the parts ar real close together, and at certain frequencies things are going to rattle, that would explain the rattle at a certain speed/sound/frequencies.And ya,it is more then likly your piping.

I didnt say it was the piping... I said its the heat shields around the piping in the tunnel. Unless you were trying to agree with someone else that mentioned piping.

I went to the dealer because I had the same problem, in my case it was a squeaking sound. They told me it had something to do with the heat shield, so they lubricated the parts. It worked for about a month, now the squeak is back.
Has anyone actually reinforced the heat shield as Chris07LB mentioned? And did it fix the problem? |

i have a weird squeek as well, but it is a mechanical squeek when engaging the brakes and it is coming from the rear... happens if i use my pedal or when setting my e-brake, don't matter... dealer said "there was no lube on my backing plate", I have never seen anyone lube the backing plate on drum brakes... and I still have the squeek

I get this weird rattle when my car is idle in reverse. When I give it power or remove my hand brake it stops. I bought it like this and the car is only 1 week old.
Also, I hear a lot of rattle in the back when I'm normal driving. I have the RS model so a lot of plastic in the back, the back rattle is when I'm at about 2500rpm (the point where my car vibrates the most). |
