Tach wiring help!
Alright, I've seen the DIY thread by sanityassassinv2, and I've read some of the other posts about installing an aftermarket tach, but it's still all in a different language to me. I can find bolts and pins and ties and work with them as easy as drinking water, but when it comes to wiring, I'm pretty much the worst. I've got a cheapo Sunpro Supertach 2, fyi. So:
1. does anyone have pictures of the fuse port where the red wire is supposed to be put into 2. which exactly is the ecu wire that the green wire is supposed to be spliced with 3. there was a brown wire that controls the illumination to the radio I believe, but which is it? There's multiple brown wires that I'm looking at. I believe that this thread, if replied to in enough detail (with photos, obviously) would be beneficial to anyone looking to install an aftermarket tachometer who has absolutely no ability to work with wiring. Thanks y'all! mrbond is online now Report Post Edit/Delete Message |

If you look at the back of the OB2 plug , which is under the dash by your left knee.
Find pin 15, that is the wire, you need to connect your green wire to. |

The OB2 , is where toyota plug into your car to read faults, and where the guys on here plug in
there Scan Guages, for mpg figures and the like. for getting night time illumination , it is a lot easier to get this from the fuse block , look for park light fuse. |

lol, I know what its purpose is. I just don't know where to find it amongst the fuses. I took out that little storage compartment by the driver's left knee, and, to me, it's all just wires.
1NZYaris1, do you have any pictures of any type of the fuse area? |

check diy manual for instructions if needed. attached is a photo showing a plug under the steering wheel next to ignition switch, try connecting it to the yellow wire as shown. |

bond.. i think the post right before your last one tells you were the red(power wire goes) to the yellow.. the other 2 are discribed in that DIY on how to install tachs on here. I think at least..

hmm...in that case, the illumination is the issue. though that's not incredibly necessary right now, it will become an issue in the future. i read in another thread that there was a brown wire that illuminates the radio or something. don't know WHICH brown wire it is.
i hate wiring. unless you either have training in automotive wiring or you take apart the dash, you don't know what does what. argh. |
