Yaris sedan low and high beam
Hello fellow yaris owners:) How are you doin' ?
Yaris's my first car I have been owning it for 3 years, I have the 2006 1.5 L sedan model, and I say honestly that's it's quite awesome! Now let's talk about the beams. I noticed some while ago that when I engage the high beam the low beam turns off. Now There are cars that leave the low beam on when the high beam's on. And if you pull the high beam nob towards you (for flashing with the high beam), there's a brief moment when both lights are on. So I wanna ask is there a way to make them both work when the high beam's engaged (high beam nob pushed forward), and why do they do it like this? Is there a temperature problem if they are both on(since they both light up from the same bulb) or is it an electrical problem (they draw too much power if both on).. Thanks a lot mates ! |

Welcome, I'm not too knowledgeable on electronics, but it may be due to the fact that the highbeam and lowbeams are on the same bulb. Either that, or your guesses. hehe.

The reason its not done is heat buildup and power demands on the electrical system.. but if you want to do the mod it goes something like this = http://www.stylintrucks.com/Articles...l/Article.aspx

Well yeah I guess this is the reason.. but it sucks:P
Let me explain how my light nob works. If the low beam's on, and you pull the light nob, then the high beam turns on and then the low beam turns off. So if you pull it a little you can hold it in a position where both lights are on.. (but it's not practical, i mean driving and holding the nob in the same time:P) Sure sucks.. the light when both beams are on is awesome:D |

It sound easy to me. Take the high beam wire from the knob and attach it to a new switch. Now you can add high beam anytime.

to put it simply, you DON'T WANT them both on. It's like that for a reason, and most cars do this. It is for the reasons mentioned above, and it is dangerous to have them both on constantly, you can melt your housing.

The bulb's envelope may overheat and pop, and the filaments will be operating above their normal temperature. You can anticipate short bulb life.

Total the wattage on the head lamps and add a bit (10%) for safety... or just check the fuse.
