Possible clutch actuator problem
Hi,
A couple of months ago I bought a Toyota Yaris MK2. Some times after driving for a bit and stop for e.g. a trafficlight, I get a constant beeping sound. It stops when I start driving again. It's exactly the sound from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP4n5Cknh20 Is it correct that I probably need to have the clutch actuator replaced? |

- Checked the battery, it's a new one. No problem. About 12.8v engine OFF, around 14.2/14.4v engine ON. Wire connection seems to be OK.
- Checked the fuses in the engine compartment with a multi-meter (Ohms and Volts). All are OK. - The battery ground is connected to the chassis, do not see something odd. - Used an OBD2 connector to check for faultcodes, none thru two different OBD scanner apps (Torque and Car scanner). |

Someone posted a thread quite some time ago inquiring how to disable that beeping. I believe in his case, he was referring to an alarm triggered by a proximity detector, detecting something to close to the front of the car at a stop.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, maybe I should have added some more information. - It's a secondhand Toyota Yaris from 2006, don't think it has a proximity sensor. - The beeping also happens when there is no car in front of me. Today: - Removed all the fuses and sanded them, to make the connection better. And placed them back. - Used contact spray in all slots. - Removed the minus pole from the battery and sanded it, did the same to the ground connected to the chassis. And placed it back. |

Apparently European market MK2 2006 could have sensors installed.

I see, a genuine Toyota accessory apparently.
My car doesn't have it AFAIK, no beeping when close to something. |

Shame I got no other replies about this problem.
The beeping can also be stopped by shifting manually from one to two, after a while it starts again. Then I shift back to one. It must be a problem with the clutch actuator motor. |

Sir,
Thanks for bringing this to general attention. Corolla 1.3 VVT 2006, manufactured in France, here... Humbly, i have exact same problem early last year. Didnt beep at first. Car just stopped-and-wouldnt-start when driving slowly in queue. After some time, the defective gear-control burned out my clutch discs. It was only beeping at the very end and... Well, I thought it was just defective physical clutch. Ok. Had just the clucth plates replaced. But only to get exact same problem now again... 1 year later. It was the other car parts, I suspect Besides the beeping, you gotta smell carefully for burnt clutch, please. Sir, please watch (I know, slightly other model, but setup and year looks very similar to me): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsbh...=LMAutoRepairs This problem can originate from either of reasons : - bad relay - bad transmission control computer box (located behind glove department) - bad automat-clutch motor - it might even mean that your gearbox is leaking oil, I personally had that experience for a short period - or it could even be some error in the transmission rotation-sensor without proper error-diagnostice, we will replace parts in the blind. Please read comments in video above and notice gentleman, who replaced all gear-motor-control-parts and things still didnt work... Back to basics - if it's beeping, it may be an electronics issue or at least detected by electroncs. It's not just some physical defect, which goes unnoticed. Doing a short test by applying manual gear selection may help to determine if this an automat-issue only. Going for the relay also allow for an easy replacement-test. Good luck - I will have to figure out myself what is the real reason for my cluctch-beeping noise. Starts after approx 10 min idle engine - with no attempt to change gear. It's 5 beeps - followed by 6 beeps then 5 beeps... Burnt clutch. For more information, I found this useful: https://pmmonline.co.uk/technical/th...-and-function/ fuse box layout https://fuse-box.info/toyota/toyota-...uses-and-relay watch out for R2 and number 21... Also, on ebay I searched for : Toyota VCI Mini Scanner -- and I'm buying one. After all, this is just one step up from doing OBD codes - gotta try this out. Only problem is that shipping from china takes ages. I hope this will all help people, who will run into this in the future. Seriously - this is a Toyota factory quality issue - diagnosis shouldnt be that hard also. Doing beeps and not delivering error code is just genuine bad customer-service. regards Last edited by stigva; 02-15-2021 at 09:39 AM. |
