Is the next-gen Yaris actually coming to the U.S.?
I'm not trying to incite any rumors or anything, but I haven't heard a peep about the next-gen Yaris coming to the U.S. for sure. No concepts at North American shows, now news, few spy photos, or anything.
Has anyone heard anything official about getting the next-gen Yaris in North America?

Haven't heard anything. Maybe we can get an idea from the Australian Auto Show next month http://www.caradvice.com.au/122171/2...al-motor-show/

I'm still betting they kill it off in favor of the new Prius C. Maybe we'll get the sedan, but I really think the Prius C is going to be a slightly restyled version of the Yaris hybrid that they are going to offer in Japan and Europe.

Huh! That's a good question for a good reason...
Considering that Toyota already sells a semi-replacement as the Scion Xd, and the Corolla is already a better "value" (in terms of cost vs. size of car), and the hybrids get better mileage, they may be planning to just kill the Yaris name... |

Other things to consider: - The Scion xD has been around since 2008. Is it due for replacement soon, too? - Toyota has always had a subcompact offering, even when there were nearly none available on the US market. (Think, Echo and Tercel ...) - I would think it'd be crazy for Toyota not to have a b-segment car. Nearly every automaker (sans Mitsubishi and Subaru) has a subcompact offering these days. - The 2012 Yaris was just announced for the Australian market this week (I believe): http://www.themotorreport.com.au/519...ance-confirmed Just some food for thought.

With the 09 5 door, there was no official announcement until August of 2008. I found out about the fact that it was supposed to be coming to the US in My of 08 thanks to rumors on YW, but I couldn't get a dealer to confirm that for me until the end of July, and even then only one of the five dealers that I spoke with confirmed it and the others all claimed that it wasn't true.

Something has to be coming, although they could decide to go with a crap version like with the version of the echo we got, and just reduce the base price of the corolla again. When you put any type of options onto a Yaris its pricing was way too similar to a Corolla. Maybe they just gave us everything this model to see if it would sell well, and they decided it did not sell well enough.

The fact that the current Yaris continues to be sold in the EU as Daihatsu Charade (albeit only in 5-door guise with one engine- the 1,33) gives further raise to these speculations about the US market...
Then again, many EU manufacturers have kept their previous-gen B-segment cars in production after the introduction of a new model by simply adding a suffix to the model name of the old one (eg Renault Clio Campus and Peugeot 206+). They give the old model a facelift to make it look more current, narrow the spec list (in terms of body styles, equipment levels and engine options) and market it as a budget alternative to the new model. A sign of modern times, I guess. |

This Motor Authority post says that we will be seeing the 2012's come fall. Let's hope this is for real!
