I don't think you can reflash the ECU on a Toyota.

The original Toyota ECU is locked down tight, and CANNOT be reflashed. Lots of people have tried.
You can install a stand-alone ECU, like an AEM EMS-4, but unless you go the forced induction route, you woun't be seeing any real big gains.

How about if I choose to use a stand-alone ECU like Adaptronic will it be beneficial on a stock 1nz engine? Not gonna go on a forced induction route but planning to pursue it's NA potential. Will it also be a reliable one with just some small kicks?

you cannot reflash them..we already tried..now i am running E85 piggy back...so far running good without an issue

There is actually a new player in the industry that is saying they have cracked the 07 and newer ECU for multiple models and can flash them. The name however currently escapes me. I do recall seeing that they have been pretty big in the Mazda scene for a while.
