Adding steering wheel audio control to MK1 P2
I own a Yaris MK1 P2 with the Matsushita CD stereo.
I would like to have the steering wheel controls too, so I was thinking to get a second hand original switch and build it in. Do I need the whole wiring from steering wheel to unit (as far as I know the controls are connected to the Multi-display assy) or just the controls? Or is it even not possible to add controls? I was thinking to get something like this: Yaris second hand switch BTW: I'm also thinking to build in a CD-changer MP3 extension to play music from SD/USB. Does anyone own something similar? USB/SD/AUX for Yaris 1999-2005 Thanks, Kenny |

There are two different part numbers for the spiral cable (the wiring device that allows the steering wheel to turn without breaking the wires for the airbag, horn, and radio controls). 84306-0D012 is the part number for the standard one and 84306-0D050 is the part number for the one which supports the steering wheel controls. So, if yours did not come with the controls then it probably has the spiral cable which doesn't have the extra wires for the controls.

First, thanks you for your reply.
So, I'll probably have to change the spiral cable to. Hmmm... let's say I'll wait for a right chance to get one and then decide. Do you maybe know how complex is it to swap this cable (time, special tools, special knowledge)? What about the CD-changer extension? Anyone? |

Here is a video that I put together that shows the process. It is on a 2nd gen Yaris, but the first gen is about the same: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgWSzVeILhc

Ok, thank you for the info.
Do you maybe know if the wires from the spiral cable to the Multi-display assy are supporting controls or do I have to get those too? |

I suspect that that wiring is not present. You can remove the steering column cover to get a look at the spiral cable connector.
