There are people like you on all the forums. It is a sad state of affairs. Instead of answering the question put forth in the post, they want to be the forum police. If you don't have anything positive to add to a thread, then stay the hell off of it. And you can search for that if you want to.

Tom48, you don't include nearly enough information for anyone to answer your question.
A simple search for "engine tuning" brought up at least 20 relevant threads about tuning the Yaris by various methods. Let's start over. Describe what you have, what you want to do, and where you are. And what you already know. You might get some answers in this thread then.

I am interested in getting a tune for my Yaris's engine that would improve the performance of the engine. This would include , increased HP (not Much) Increase MPG (not Much). Things along this line. I am not interested in turning the car into a Hot Rod , just improving the performance .
Do these cars, the Yaris, have a computer brain that controls them> Is the only way to get what I am looking for is to add parts to the car, ie turbo's and ect? |

after my research. i have yet to mess with the computer on this car. but what everyone says after my search. the yaris ecu is a very hard one to manipulate if you dont have a standalone management ecu..
there isnt anything to "TUNE" on the yaris.. its an economy car to the max.. performance will sacrifice a little bit of MPG like any performance part put on a fuel economy car. if your looking for just HP gain.. without spending around 2k for a turbo and fuel management system.. your really just looking to gain maybe 10hp if your lucky.. my cold air intake barely gave me 2hp, not even.. so if you like spending a few hundred dollars and a little bit of hp.. by all means, check out microimageonline.com they have really good deals and most of the stuff is free shipping.. good luck with your build |

Unfortunately it doesn't quite work that way. You would have to pick either increased MPG or increased HP, they are inversely proportional in most cases. As it stands, Toyota has done one hell of a job already squeezing as much MPG and HP out of the engine as possible with stock components and you wouldn't really be able to increase either with a simple re-flash or tune to the point of satisfaction. Any HP gains they would be negligible.
If you want to increase HP and possibly increase MPG slightly, start with a drop in filter (like K&N) and removal of the restrictive charcoal filter within the lid of the filter box. That will allow more air flow to the engine and lean out the mixture slightly. The actual HP gain and MPG gain will still be extremely negligible, though you may notice increased throttle response and a slightly smoother acceleration while changing gears. Beyond that, you would be looking at bolt-ons and add-ons for HP such as an aftermarket intake, exhaust, header, piggy back computer, larger TB, Forced Induction, etc., etc. Going this route, however, will decrease MPG with the increase of HP. |

It's a lot easier to bolt on performance parts than it is to tune the ECU.
These are the usual ways to add a few horsepower. Adding all of them will get you to 105--108 whp (from 90-95 whp stock). 1. intake 2. crank pulley 3. header 4. exhaust Here is the Yaris performance primer thread: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9451
