I'm not too sure if the Yaris one will fit the echo ? Sorry if I'm showing my true noobness about these cars. If it does for I'll sell it, if not than I wouldn't want to deceive you.

I would have to see the pictures. If I can mount it to the throttle body I'm sure I could make it work. Anyone got any input?

You'll probably have to hack it to bits to get it to fit properly.

Probably be easier to use a drop-in K&N filter and cut one side off the box where the air filter goes. That will give you pretty much the same result.

@bluevitz-rs shouldn't that be the Scion xA that's virtually identical to the Echo hatchback?

xA xB and Echo all share the same chassis.

So just hacking open the original air box and replacing the filter? I think a trip to the bone yard is due. Thanks for the input everyone.

Just a heads up. Keeping the original air box no mater what you do to it won't net you any gains. I speak from personal experience.

Way back when my car was pretty new I went to the drag strip with some guys, one had an echo identical to mine. He had nothing but the AEM CAI. I had a header and Borla axle back. I'd beat him on the tree every time and then he'd start gaining on me and beat me to the line. Didn't matter what I did to the airbox, nothing would help. I even tried leaving it propped open with no filter for one pass.

I think there must have been other factors at play here. Once you get down to the basic shell of the air box plus a K&N filter, you have very little resistance to the air flow and you're in the same ball park as a piece of pipe with a cone filter on the end. Plus your ECU is also less likely to complain. I admit I've not drag raced, but I've had good results this way.

The stock rubber tube connecting the air box to the TB and the velocity stack inside the air box cause restriction. I later changed mine for the AEM CAI for an xB and noticed a huge gain.

I'm not trying to blow smoke up your a$$. I've done everything to the Echo's 1NZ and know what works and what doesn't.
